It was a decision driven by a great resolve, but there was no regret. However, just thinking back on it brought a heart-wrenching sadness that made it hard to breathe. Ivonne forced herself to push forward with her thoughts.
‘I went to the house to check on the missing Berthe…’
She confirmed Berthe sleeping with Ameline. Surprisingly, it was Mary who was taking care of her. From her, Ivonne heard the story of when she went to look for Ameline.
‘And when I felt relieved and went outside…’
This part of the memory grew hazy. But it wasn’t entirely impossible to piece together, so Ivonne furrowed her brow and focused on her thoughts.
Then,
“You’re awake!”
A cheerful voice rang out from behind. Ivonne, still reeling from the pain as if she had been struck all over, forgot about it and quickly turned around.
There, standing before her, was…
“…Emperor?”
It was none other than Arnold, his green eyes gleaming brightly, strikingly similar yet somehow different from hers.
“Well, it seems you’re fully awake. Fast as expected.”
“Why… why am I here? No, Your Majesty, why are you here…?”
Ivonne stammered, confused. Seeing her reaction, Arnold raised a hand, as if to show that he understood everything.
“Yes, you must be shocked. It’s understandable. But there’s no need to worry.”
His voice was firm, more so than reassuring. It had the kind of confidence that made it clear he was absolutely certain his words were correct.
This did little to ease Ivonne’s unease. Of course, Arnold had no intention of alleviating the discomfort she felt. So, whether Ivonne bled from her head or not, he continued to circle around her.
“Now, most of the preparations are complete…”
Arnold muttered something incomprehensible as he walked past Ivonne, not even casting a single concerned glance at her injuries. In a way, it was for the better. Now that she had said her goodbye to Herix, what Ivonne needed wasn’t warm comfort, but rather cold, rational judgment.
‘It seems the Emperor doesn’t want to help me.’
Faint moonlight streamed into the pitch-black room. With only that light to guide her, Ivonne looked around and realized that she was in the Western Magic Tower, a place she had visited before with Isaac.
‘Wasn’t the Magic Tower supposed to be demolished?’
She had heard that all the magic books and research facilities had been moved to the Imperial Palace. But contrary to that, Ivonne was now staring at a perfectly intact Magic Tower.
‘Did the Emperor kidnap me? It doesn’t seem like an illusion…’
Since she wasn’t physically tied up, Ivonne casually used a spell to dispel any illusion magic. Nothing changed.
While all of this was happening, Arnold continued to pace back and forth in front of her. It was at the moment when she felt her mind starting to become overwhelmed that it happened.
“Ah! Here it is!”
The old hinges screeched loudly. What she thought was a wall turned out to be a door. The dark space in the corner of her vision suddenly opened, and from within, Arnold welcomed the person with open arms.
As soon as Ivonne saw the figure, her face slowly filled with shock. The size of her open mouth seemed like it could unleash a scream at any moment, but the words she managed to utter were brief.
“You….”
“Shh.”
The figure, now standing close, gently placed their index finger on Ivonne’s lips. Her eyes grew wide as she saw the figure more clearly. In her green eyes, emotions were bubbling up, but she couldn’t express what she was feeling.
“All of this is by the will of God.”
The figure smiled. A smile that was both kind and chilling.

“Gah, huff.”
Johann, for the first time in a while, felt like he was suffocating. His chest ached as if it were being torn apart, and every time he took a step, his ribs felt like they were about to break. Yet, he couldn’t stop running.
‘What the hell!’
His body wasn’t keeping up with his brain’s commands. If he had to disagree with someone who had once told him that the body moves according to the mind, Johann would now be vehemently opposed.
‘What the hell!’
While Johann’s body was faithfully pushing forward, his mind was consumed with one thought over and over.
‘Who the hell is Isaac?’
The former master of the Western Magic Tower, sentenced to death by Herix for being an agent of the Osbloom Kingdom, but still somehow alive and living with Ivonne in the Ortensia Republic. Herix had attacked him personally and locked him up again in the Sortenic Empire’s sea prison, but Isaac had escaped once more.
‘What the hell is this guy doing!’
And now, this man was the cause of Johann’s current pain and frantic running.
Johann couldn’t stop thinking about Isaac. He couldn’t focus on anything else. It was also connected to the thoughts about Herix running ahead of him.
“Ivonne! Ivonne!”
He had been searching frantically, running around the town near the Tens Mansion and all the places Ivonne might be in the capital. He had tried to track magic as he had done before, but he lost the trail right in front of Berthe’s house.
‘That means she’s been walking without using magic.’
Ivonne must be nearby. There were other possibilities too.
‘She could have moved using someone else’s magic.’
