While the man’s introduction was gruff and dry, the large hand with thick bones holding Ivonne’s hand, felt fervent and warm, almost like that of a young child. His large hand easily enveloped Ivonne’s hand completely with just a light grasp.
‘It’s like… being swallowed up by the hand.’
She knew it was an absurd thought, but there was no other way to explain it.
Ivonne tried to gently shake his hand and let go.
His palm, both hot and somehow humid, felt like the jaw of a beast. However, the man who introduced himself as Rix didn’t let go even after shaking her hand a couple of times. Instead, he took a step closer, his shimmering purple eyes staring down at her face with such a fierce gaze that it almost felt as if he was trying to pry into her very soul.
“Uh.”
Startled, Ivonne almost took a step back involuntarily. Even if a starving bear suddenly appeared right in front of her, she believed she could protect herself. She had the ability and the courage.
Yet, in the face of this man, Ivonne couldn’t withstand the overwhelming sense of strength he exuded.
‘It’s like… facing a wild beast.’
Wasn’t it because of the infrasound they emit that one’s hair stands on end in the presence of wild animals? He had made Ivonne feel completely immobilized with just the intensity of his gaze, almost as if he were emitting infrasound like a wild beast. The feeling of awe was vivid.
However, that was not all.
The man she saw for the first time today had a different aura compared to those she had encountered before, with a gentle or rather indecisive atmosphere, depending on how one perceived it.
There was a sensual and tantalizing tension, something that evoked impulsive and alluring sensations. It had been a long time since she felt such a stimulating tension just from facing a person.
However, Ivonne was able to quickly regain her composure, largely because his face was well hidden behind his large glasses. His strong jawline exuded a masculine vibe, but his eyes looked as small as beans, it was hard to divert her gaze.
After all, isn’t it about aesthetics? No matter how well-built a body is, if the face doesn’t match, it’s a letdown.
It was when Ivonne looked up at the man’s face. It was like a sudden downpour out of nowhere. His red lips, which had a refreshing taste, stretched into a soft, birch-like smile!
“!”
The round upward curve of his lips and the deep dimple on each side of his mouth when he smiled were truly exquisite.
Ivonne couldn’t have imagined finding charm in someone’s neat, white teeth. Until she saw Rix smile, that is. Moreover, his eye smile was so sweet, the curling of his eye corners was clearly visible even behind the glasses.
Captivated by his childlike innocence and the infectious smile that made everyone happy, Ivonne found herself lost in thought. Just as she was about to open her mouth in a daze, Rix spoke.
“You look different from above.”
It was incomprehensible.

Rix, who suddenly moved into the small cabin in the forest, was truly an odd fellow.
“What kind of food do you like?”
“….”
“Do you have any food allergies?”
“….”
“Do you like sweets?”
“….”
To celebrate becoming neighbors, she invited him to dinner. The bread, cheese, and butter she bought yesterday had all come in handy.
However, no matter what questions Ivonne asked, Rix remained silent. At first, she thought he might be a reserved person, but upon further reflection, it seemed like he was trying to conceal his voice.
As their one-sided conversation continued, Rix’s violet gaze kept wandering over Ivonne’s face. Sneaking a glance as she headed towards the kitchen, Ivonne discreetly found a mirror.
‘I hope my face isn’t turning violet.’
Nevertheless, Rix scanned Ivonne, or rather, stared at her, as if licking her. Every moment.
Surprisingly, there was no discomfort, which was quite astonishing in itself.
During dinner, Ivonne observed that Rix relied mostly on gestures for communication. When Ivonne said something, he nodded if he liked it, shook his head if he didn’t, and simply looked away if it was so-so. It was a somewhat arrogant behavior, but strangely, it suited him incredibly well.
‘He’s such a peculiar person, really.’
In truth, Ivonne wasn’t particularly affectionate or fond of people, excluding children. She couldn’t say that she liked people in particular. Yet, she couldn’t help but be drawn to Rix.
Perhaps it was because of that peculiar, inexplicable aura that made her want to take care of him, reminiscent of the fox, in a strange way.
Was that the reason? Even so, after Ivonne had deliciously finished every meal she made and cleaned her plate, she effortlessly brought up a conversation to Rix, who sat across from as if he was the fox.
“Ah… The thing is, there was a fox that I lived with. It was a wild fox, but we’ve been together since I treated its injured leg. However, I haven’t seen it since this morning, I don’t know where it went.”
Darkness had descended outside. Ivonne, who was fiddling with the fox’s food bowl, sighed.
“I wonder if it’s eating well… I thought it might return to the wild someday, but still, it could at least say goodbye before leaving.”
