But now, she has been reincarnated here, in this second life, living a life in a sweet, healing romance novel, <My Childhood Friend Aims to Be My Husband>.

So why?

“How… how are you…?”

Why was he here? Why was he the one standing before her now?

“Here, here?”

Was he really standing in front of her now?

“I… Isaac, huh?”

And in the form of Isaac, no less!

No, that wasn’t quite right.

Isaac was him.

Ivonne suddenly grabbed her wrist. The bruise that had formed on her wrist throbbed. Her pulse was racing. Her legs, still trembling as if they weren’t even her own, wouldn’t hold her up.

Ah, she hadn’t realized. Just changing his beige hair to black and his green eyes to brown—altering his features slightly to appear more eastern rather than western—she never imagined the transformation could be so drastic.

Who would’ve imagined it?

The sponsor who had supported her in the modern world, the boyfriend who had killed her in that life, and the senior from the world she reincarnated into were the same person!

She could have called it madness, or over-interpretation. But there was no denying it.

The Isaac in front of her had transformed into her ex-boyfriend. And what proof was there that Isaac and Izac were not the same person? What insight could there be?

“Ah…”

Ivonne collapsed to the floor. Her legs gave out; she couldn’t stand. She slumped down, her body shaking as she looked up at Isaac’s face, which was devoid of expression. His gaze, once filled with kindness, warmth, and affection, now held nothing but coldness, no trace of the tenderness he once had.

Yet, there was something unmistakably left in those eyes.

Desire.

A fierce, almost ugly desire directed at Ivonne.

Her mind was in turmoil. At the same time, chills ran through her skin, and her body started to tremble, as if cold shivers were crawling up her spine.

‘Why is he looking at me like that? How… how is this even possible? Then what does it mean? What have I been doing all this time? What did I… what did I do?’

Her mind was filled with strange, grinding thoughts, like sand slipping between the teeth of a rusty gear. Yet, sadly, the situation she was in couldn’t be solved just by thinking through it alone. It felt as if her life was entirely in someone else’s hands, and that realization caused a sharp feeling of loss.

It was so overwhelming that, in the end, she wanted to escape from it all.

As she looked at the floor in despair, something unusual caught her eye.

‘When Senior Isaac broke the window and entered, didn’t I hear the vibrations of a magic circle activating from outside?’

Perhaps the powerful magic circle had been deactivated. But even if it hadn’t, it didn’t matter anymore. No matter what trap was outside, Ivonne just wanted to escape. That was the only thought in her mind.

At some point, Ivonne had heard that if there was a fire in a high-rise building, some people would jump even from a great height thinking it was safer than staying inside.

That was how she felt now. Her vision was blurred by the red hue, the raised hand, the brown brick, the gleeful laughter, and the face that continued to flash before her eyes. The immediate danger in front of her made it impossible for her mind to function normally.

Staying here any longer felt like her heart that was thumping wildly in her chest, would break her ribs.

‘I have to get out.’

The thought took control, like a command ingrained in her brain by someone else. Escape—her mind was filled only with that thought.

Unconsciously, Ivonne used her magical powers. Just then…

“Haha, where do you think you’re going?”

Isaac laughed. He then knelt in front of Ivonne, blocking her escape. Standing face to face with him again, his eyes had returned to the familiar dark green she knew so well. However, his beige hair was still darkened to black, and for some reason, Ivonne couldn’t shake the thought that he resembled Herix.

Herix—the face of the man she had been desperately trying to suppress in her mind flickered in her thoughts, only to fade away quickly.

‘…I want to see him.’

At that moment, Ivonne realized just how much she longed to see the man she had said goodbye to. The man she had left behind amidst the wreckage of the ‘home’ they had once shared—she wanted to see him so badly. She thought that if she could meet him, she could find peace.

But her body was reacting differently than her thoughts, and the hoarse voice that escaped her lips startled her.

“You’re… Aiden.”

Ivonne was shocked by her own words. Her mouth had moved on its own, and even the voice wasn’t hers. Her hands trembled. Things beyond her comprehension kept happening.

And Aiden, he was the half-brother who had been killed by Herix, who aimed to be the Crown Prince, wasn’t he? Why was she thinking of him now as she looked at Isaac? To her surprise, Isaac smirked. It was an affirmation.

“Ah…”

Her head ached from the blows she had received. The back of her skull felt numb, and the blood that had stopped flowing seemed to seep again, leaving her neck damp.

It could have been cold sweat. Ivonne suddenly realized that the pain in her head now felt eerily similar to the moments before her death in her previous life.

‘What is this? What is happening?’

She had asked, but it wasn’t really a question. In truth, she no longer wanted to know.

Her weakened head fell forward, and her pink hair, tangled with blood, draped forward.
