I Became a Barbarian's Bride - Chapter 10
“That’s fine, but please don’t speak about the saintess to anyone.”
At Mary’s words, Kagan gave a warm, yet deceptive smile and lightly rubbed his chin before responding with feigned innocence.
“But… if she becomes more well-known, she could be well-received in the empire. Is there a reason to hide her…?”
His golden eyes gleamed with a hint of cunning.
“…That’s…”
“Mary, we’re done inside, so go outside and help distribute the food with the others,” Nisha interjected, seeing Mary hesitate.
“Oh, yes!”
Startled, Mary quickly went to divide the food.
Nisha approached, silently looking into Kagan’s eyes before extending her slender fingers to pick up the torn piece of paper from the notebook. She glanced at it briefly before setting it back down.
“Excuse me.”
Nisha reached out slowly toward Kagan.
He didn’t avert his gaze or close his eyes as her small hand moved closer until it completely covered his eye.
The hand touching his eye was colder than he had expected.
Kagan thought it was unusual, as he had imagined a saintess to have a warm touch. Slowly, he closed his eyes, his eyelashes brushing against her palm. For a princess, her hand was a bit rough.
Just then, he felt a cooling sensation around his eye.
The perpetual heat in his left eye dissipated suddenly.
‘…This feels quite nice,’ Kagan thought to himself as he took a deep breath.
“Ah…”
Startled, Nisha quickly pulled her hand away as if she had touched something hot. Kagan’s eyes slowly opened.
“…”
Nisha looked down at Kagan with trembling eyes.
She stood still for a moment, as if confronted with something deeply unsettling, before slowly lowering her hand.
“…The treatment is complete. Are you feeling better?”
“…Ah.”
Kagan rubbed his now cool and pain-free left eye with his thumb, grinning widely.
“You’re quite skilled, Saintess.”
Feeling like she was facing a dangerous predator, Nisha froze momentarily before nodding slowly.
His golden eyes roamed slowly from her head to her toes, scrutinizing every part of her as if inspecting her thoroughly.
A chill ran down her spine.
It didn’t take long for Nisha to realize that merely meeting his gaze had given her goosebumps.
‘…It feels like he drained all my life force.’
Nisha stared at her palm in a daze, thinking quietly.
“…I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better. Well then, I’ll take my leave…”
His intense gaze never left her.
Deciding to leave first, Nisha maintained her composure and uttered a polite farewell, despite her uneasy feeling.
Just as she was about to turn away, he spoke.
“See you soon, Tun.”
His voice was low and laced with a hint of amusement, addressing her informally. She turned her head back to look at him, almost involuntarily.
