I Became a Barbarian's Bride - Chapter 19
Nisha’s sudden coughing fit silenced the room. Embarrassed, she quickly tried to calm herself by drinking water, but it didn’t help much.
‘That useless b***h…!’
Celiana thought, pale with worry. She feared that the King of Xieman might change his mind and take her own children instead of the sickly, useless Nisha.
The Emperor, although outwardly composed, was trembling from the moment the King of Xieman appeared.
The Roshan nobles were grim-faced due to the unexpected situation.
Thankfully, the maid who always stayed close to Nisha quickly stepped in, bringing her some water, and managed to calm things down.
The King of Xieman did not seem too displeased, fortunately.
“This banquet is prepared by Roshan, so enjoy it to your heart’s content today.”
He simply added, lifting his glass.
The scene was chaotic. The Xieman guests used their forks haphazardly or ate with their hands, looking more like beasts than anything else.
Celiana gripped her pale twins’ hands tightly to reassure them.
“Oh, come to think of it, it would be good to bring our princess some fruit.”
“…….”
Nisha’s brow furrowed at the sudden suggestion from Kagan Xieman.
“You said you wanted some, didn’t you?”
Nisha couldn’t help but glance towards Celiana at Kagan’s clearly pointed reference to the early morning incident before cautiously opening her mouth.
“…I’m fine now. I’m full.”
“It doesn’t seem like you’ve eaten much.”
“I have a weak stomach.”
Nisha’s blunt words made Kagan narrow his eyes.
It was obvious she was subtly blaming him for the bloodshed that had taken place earlier.
Indeed, some of the Roshan nobles were covering their mouths or looking like they were about to retch.
Others clearly needed to use the restroom but dared not leave without permission.
‘Still, she’s handling it better than the rest.’
Although pale, she wasn’t retching or showing overt signs of disgust like the foolish nobles.
Look at her—trembling like a frightened rabbit but still not avoiding his touch or gaze.
Kagan smirked slightly.
He appreciated her fortitude despite her pale complexion.
If she were to sit beside him in his country, this much resolve was necessary.
“Well, I apologize if I made a mistake.”
Kagan Xieman offered a straightforward apology.
“Then… since I wouldn’t want to upset my princess further, we shall change seats.”
“…”
A frown formed on Nisha’s delicate brow.
Regardless, Kagan licked his lips and rose from his seat.
“Today is the joyous day you become mine.”
He extended his hand to Nisha.
Unable to refuse his outstretched hand, Nisha placed her hand in his, uncertain of his intentions or thoughts.
His hand was as large as his stature, easily able to engulf both of hers in one grasp and seemingly capable of covering her entire face.
“Go on, Kagan! Have a good time!”
“Good luck, Princess!”
“Haha! The Kagan is leaving the banquet because he finds the Princess so beautiful!”
“…?”
The various cheers and encouragements from all around made Nisha’s expression increasingly complex.
Confusion flickered across her face.
Kagan leisurely observed her puzzled expression, holding her hand as he exited the banquet hall with a cigarette in his mouth.
Nisha had to almost run to keep up with his long strides, her brow furrowing.
‘He seems even bigger up close.’
Unlike the people of the Empire, he wore a light silk garment that left his chest exposed.
The drop earrings dangling from his ears and the thick gold bracelets on his wrists were intricately crafted, clearly of high quality.
She had to crane her neck just to look at his face.
Even with his exposed chest, there were scars visible, as well as more on his arms.
The tribes of the borderlands, known for their warlike nature, proudly displayed their battle scars.
‘…This man… conquered the Empire?’
