I Became a Barbarian's Bride - Chapter 31
“Yes. It’s hard for enemies to invade or even find us. On the other hand, we can easily spot any enemies. Think of it as a lookout post.”
Still, isn’t it too desolate? What do the villagers eat to survive here?
“Could I have a room to myself? I want to sleep alone. That…”
As Nisha trailed off, seemingly hesitant, he nodded, understanding what she meant.
“I’ll arrange it. Anything else, Princess?”
“Just… make sure no light enters the room, and no one comes in.”
At Nisha’s words, Kagan nodded.
“Considering the power you have, it’s fortunate that the cost is relatively easy.”
“…Yes.”
After hearing Nisha’s words, Kagan turned and instructed Sharhu to prepare what was needed, then swiftly managed the excited and bickering delegation.
Sitting idly on a rock, Nisha slowly tilted her head back.
The sky was blue and the air dry but clear. If not for the barren land, the sky alone was refreshing.
“Princess. The lodgings are ready. Though lacking, please bear with us.”
“Alright.”
Nisha answered calmly and nodded.
Sharhu guided her, glancing at her occasionally.
Her expression showed little change, and her tone was quite dry and stiff. Yet, she seemed to take good care of her people.
‘I wonder if she’ll be able to fulfill the role of queen properly.’
As long as their king, Kagan, was around, no one would dare to mess with her, but in Xieman, strength was everything.
Survival of the fittest.
It’s a place where the weak are naturally weeded out.
All the previous chiefs’ wives or queens were strong-willed individuals.
However, in his eyes, the princess looked so delicate, as if a stern word would blow her away.
‘The maid said she’s been in poor health since childhood.’
At this rate, they might need to hire a skilled doctor from outside.
“This is the room you’ll be using.”
“Thank you.”
“If you need anything, please call. Have a good rest.”
“I plan to sleep undisturbed tonight, so make sure no one enters.”
Recalling what Kagan had told him earlier, Sharhu bowed deeply with a respectful expression at Nisha’s words.
“Yes.”
With a click, the door closed, and as the sound of footsteps faded, Nisha slowly locked the door.
She had asked for no light to enter, and they had given her a room with thick curtains.
She took a quick look around the room, which was spacious enough to believe it was an inn, and slowly undressed.
It felt quite nice to wash her body in hot water and soak in the bathtub after so long.
‘I was pretty worried, thinking I was just a hostage…’
Surprisingly, the treatment was much better than in Roshan.
Though rough and straightforward, they were all quite respectful in their own way and didn’t harass the people Nisha had brought along.
‘Well, the real test will be when we enter the capital.’
There, various political elements would be entangled, and she would never be truly free.
Nisha took out a small vial from inside her discarded clothes and poured some round pills into her palm, putting them into her mouth.
She drank a large amount of water and slowly lay down on the bed.
If nothing else, Nisha was well-versed in poisons. She had studied which poisons could kill someone quickly and with the least amount of pain.
This unnamed medicine always put Nisha into a deep sleep.
A very, very deep sleep, devoid of any thoughts or warmth.
It had no name, but Nisha called it a “recharger.”
She had concocted this drug while contemplating how to escape from that castle one day.
The first day she took it, Nisha was happier than ever and at the same time, utterly despaired.
Because she realized that what she desired the most was something she could never attain, no matter how much she wished for it.
