I Became a Barbarian's Bride - Chapter 43
For that reason, Nisha was actually quite uncomfortable with any maids or servants other than Mary.
Of course, she had no intention of showing it.
“We’re all set, Katun. You’re going to see Kagan, right?”
“Yes, I have something to discuss with him.”
“He should be in his office by now. I’ll go ahead and inform him of Katun’s visit.”
“Could you do that? You’re very kind, Anita.”
At Nisha’s words, the maid, Anita, widened her eyes. It was no wonder, given how embarrassingly sweet the words were.
People of Xieman were usually straightforward and forthright, clearly separating public and private matters, and they rarely expressed gratitude.
If someone did something, it was because it was their duty, so there was no reason to be thanked for it.
Not receiving thanks didn’t bother them either.
But why did the kind words from this new mistress, pale and delicate like a white flying squirrel, tickle her insides so much?
She felt like she wanted to scrub her heart clean and put it back in place.
“Ahem. Then, please wait about ten minutes before you head out!”
“Be careful not to hurt yourself while running.”
“…Ah, yes.”
Once again, Anita, unable to find the right words, just moved her lips before retreating hastily.
She couldn’t understand the idea of getting injured while running. The very notion seemed ridiculous to her.
Having grown up in a harsh culture where children were often thrown into the desert to toughen them up while being watched from a distance, Anita couldn’t comprehend such a statement. She mulled over the words repeatedly.
“Oh.”
Anita, who had been striding with large steps, let out a small exclamation.
‘Foreigners are said to be very weak…’
Could it be that they actually get hurt from running? Do they break their ankles because they’re so weak? Or do they lack the strength in their legs and fall over?
When she thought about the new mistress of the castle, who seemed like she could be blown away by the wind, it suddenly made sense.
‘The steward repeatedly emphasized that Katun is frail and to be careful…’
There must be a reason for that.
“I should report this!”
She had been ordered to report even the smallest details. Informing that running could lead to broken ankles might help others as well.
‘I thought the noble princess from a foreign land would be quite demanding…’
Surprisingly, she wasn’t at all.
Anita curled her lips into a smile, looking quite pleased like a cat, and headed straight to Kagan’s office.

When Nisha arrived at Kagan’s office after waiting the promised ten minutes, he was alone.
Instead of working, he was sitting on a sofa in one corner of the office, waiting for her. Seeing Nisha, he stood up and escorted her to the sofa opposite where he had been sitting.
“How was your first night in Xieman, Princess?”
Was there really anything to discuss?
If she had to specify, she would say she had a deep, uninterrupted sleep, which was quite restful.
“I slept well, without waking up even once.”
“Good, that’s fortunate. Have you eaten?”
“Not yet. I came because I have something important to discuss.”
As she watched Kagan tilt a cup of tea with an unfamiliar aroma, Nisha spoke.
Kagan raised an eyebrow.
“Something to discuss? Is there something bothering you?”
“Ah, well…”
Nisha looked at the man, took a deep breath, and quickly averted her gaze.
“Actually, your mother is unwell. May I see her first?”
Nisha quickly changed the subject, thinking it would be better to fulfill what the other party wanted before making any requests.
