I Became a Barbarian's Bride - Chapter 44
“Ah…”
Kagan paused for a moment, then looked at Nisha and chuckled softly before speaking.
“It’s not too late to go after we’ve had a meal.”
“Ah, you haven’t eaten yet, so shall we have a meal and then see her? I can come back here.”
Nisha quickly added, feeling a bit embarrassed and trying to step back.
“Don’t you want to eat with me? As a distinguished princess, you must have usually dined alone in luxury.”
Nisha hesitated for a moment at Kagan’s words, then awkwardly nodded. Kagan shrugged his shoulders.
“Well, you should get used to dining with me. You’ll be staying here from now on, and we can’t be too formal with each other.”
“Ah, I see. Then, I’ll do that.”
When Kagan rang a bell, Quatro, the butler who had been standing outside, came in.
“You called for me, Kagan.”
“Yes. Prepare a meal in the garden. I’ll be dining with Nisha. Since she just arrived in Xieman, make sure the food isn’t too heavily spiced.”
“Yes, I’ll make sure everything is prepared perfectly.”
As Quatro bowed and stepped back, Nisha turned her head again.
“Where is the former… Queen Dowager?”
“Ah, she’s in the castle on the inside.”
Kagan added that there was another castle behind the main one where the former royal family resided, causing Nisha to tilt her head.
“If it’s not too far, would it be difficult to visit her briefly before the meal?”
At Nisha’s words, Kagan tilted his head slightly.
It seemed as if she was somewhat fixated on providing treatment.
Of course, it was a baseless concern, since he was the one who had asked for her help first.
“Princess, you really are too altruistic.”
Kagan said with a hint of laughter in his voice, but he stood up readily.
There was no reason to refuse when the other party was willing to help.
‘The meaning of the first moon that governs death, was it a prophecy because she has healing powers?’
She was slender and fragile, looking as if she would collapse with a touch, but the name ‘Goddess of Death’ somehow did not suit her.
“May I ask what’s wrong with the former queen?”
Nisha asked cautiously as she followed Kagan.
“It’s a side effect of her ability.”
“A side effect of her ability…?”
“Yes. As I mentioned before, there’s a prophet in Xieman.”
“Ah, yes.”
When she nodded in confusion, he laughed.
“She is my mother.”
The words slipped in with a hint of laughter, making Nisha stop in her tracks.
“Ah…”
Nisha’s eyes trembled slightly with surprise. She hadn’t realized that the queen herself was the prophet.
The way he had spoken about it made it seem like a profession within Xieman, and she hadn’t connected the dots until now.
“Where does it hurt the most? If I can’t heal it all at once, I’ll need to recharge my healing power a few times.”
“You’ll see.”
Kagan curtly replied, gently taking her hand and leading her. As if she were someone whose bones might snap with the slightest pressure.
The separate palace was situated in a secluded area, quite a distance from the massive main castle.
It seemed a bit removed from the noisy world, with plenty of sunlight and a peaceful, quiet atmosphere.
She wiped the sweat off her cheek with the back of her hand and exhaled deeply. While she knew the weather in Xieman was extreme, it was hotter than she had imagined.
Inside the castle, it felt slightly warm, but stepping onto the ground, she understood what it meant to be suffocated by the heat.
“Is it hard for you, Princess?”
“N-no. I’m okay. Am I too slow?”
She answered, trying to increase her pace as she spoke.
“No. I was just asking because you’re sweating a lot.”
“It’s because I’m not used to the climate. I’ll get used to it soon.”
Kagan watched her with a peculiar expression before chuckling and bending down to scoop her up with one arm.
“Ah!”
Startled by her suddenly floating legs, Nisha instinctively grabbed onto whatever she could, letting out a scream.
“Then I’ll have to carry you until you get used to it.”
“I-I can walk.”
“From what I see, princess, you look like you’ll melt away while walking.”
“I’m not ice…”
“You’re more fragile than ice.”
Carrying her, Kagan walked briskly into the separate castle as she looked at him with an incredulous expression.
“Inside is cool, right?”
“Yes, it’s like a cave.”
“Have you ever been to a cave?”
“A place… similar to one.”
She had once been tricked by the twins and locked in a dark underground prison.
