I Became a Barbarian's Bride - Chapter 49
The former king slowly raised his hand and gently stroked her eyelids as she sat in the chair.
“She was unparalleled in horseback riding and archery, to a degree that no one could rival her.”
Nisha opened her mouth, then slowly closed it.
Such a person lost her sight. She wouldn’t have been able to ride horses nor shoot arrows as she wished.
Unable to see, she couldn’t go anywhere.
“Why are you telling such stories to a child you’ve just met today? It’s noisy, so go get some wine.”
“What kind of wine should I bring?”
At Tatar’s rebuke, the former king quickly softened the atmosphere, bowed his head and asked her.
“The best one.”
“Okay. I’ll be right back, Titi~.”
With a melting smile, as if he hadn’t been so serious moments ago, the former king waved his hand and quickly left the room.
The way he scurried off made it hard to believe he was the same man who had just been setting the mood.
“Sorry about that, Katun.”
“Oh… it’s okay. You can speak comfortably.”
“Then, Nisha, you should call me Mother comfortably too.”
“Oh, yes. Mother.”
“Sounds nice. I hate hearing titles like former queen. I’m tired of being bound by rules.”
With a soft voice, she slowly turned her head to look at Nisha.
“In truth, ‘sleep’ isn’t the price, is it? Such a great ability wouldn’t come with such a light price.”
“…No, it is.”
“You don’t have to tell us, but someday… you should tell Kagan. Don’t carry it all by yourself.”
Nisha remained silent, an awkward smile on her lips.
Even with her unfocused pupils, she looked straight at where Nisha was, as if she could see everything clearly with her clouded eyes.
“It’s a barren place, so there are many things lacking compared to Roshan. The climate is different, and it’s a foreign country, so it won’t feel familiar. Given how you came here, it’s understandable that you don’t trust us yet. Don’t rush.”
“…”
Listening to her soft-spoken words, Nisha turned her head silently.
“But take your time to look around this country, and someday, I hope you’ll come to love it.”
Nisha silently gazed out the window that she was looking at.
“Yes, Mother.”
Nisha replied with a smiling face.
Soon, Kagan entered, and they headed to the garden.
***
Twitch.
A stiff fingertip twitched, and a gasp burst out.
As Nisha tried to grasp her gradually drifting consciousness, she coughed, “Cough, cough!”
Her body was stiff and heavy, making it impossible to move. Breathing itself was agonizing, unlike usual.
“Cough…”
Harsh, raspy breaths escaped her.
With her eyes tightly shut, she barely managed to exhale.
Normally, she would have quickly recovered and been able to move, but it took nearly twenty minutes for her stiffened body to return to normal.
It felt like being pressed down by something, as if she were held down by something on her chest. She struggled to breathe.
“Gasp, gasp…”
Finally, she jolted up, coughing repeatedly before getting out of bed and leaning over the sink.
Cough-, cough-!
With rough coughing sounds, dark blood gushed out, making her eyes widen in shock.
“…What?”
Startled, she quickly turned on the water and rinsed her mouth.
A chill spread throughout her body. She rinsed her mouth and cleaned the sink before hastily curling back under the blankets.
‘…This isn’t right, is it?’
It was the first time she had slept for 24 hours straight.
Kagan had respected her opinion more than she expected, and the maids followed her orders well.
With that, she attempted the 24-hour recharge for the first time.
