I Became a Barbarian's Bride - Chapter 50
Starting from deep inside her belly, the cold seeped into her bones, causing her to shiver violently as she hugged her pillow.
‘…With this.’
With this, she thought she could heal it. She felt like she could fix anything, save anyone with the way she felt right now.
“So cold…”
She murmured softly, frowning.
Up until now, she would feel a chill after finishing her recharge, but never to this extent.
It felt like she had been trapped in the snow for dozens of hours.
Suppressing the strange exhilaration, she took a deep breath.
‘Should I go?’
But it was 1 AM. It was too late to visit anyone without being rude.
After contemplating for a while, she saw her body trembling and decided to postpone her visit until morning with regret.
She had never felt her senses so heightened and acute before.
Knock-, knock-.
Suddenly, a knock startled her, making her body tense up.
Even her lips were trembling as she peeked her head out from under the blanket, her eyes darting around. After a moment, the doorknob turned with a click.
“…Your Highness?”
“Kagan.”
“Oh, Kagan. What brings you here at this hour…?”
Kagan entered the room, glancing around before speaking.
The empty room remained just as he had left it. Even though it had only been a few days, it looked completely barren, as if there had been no intention to decorate it.
“You said you would be awake at this hour, Princess. I was worried, so I came by after finishing my duties on my way to my room.”
“Oh… I’m fine.”
“Why are you lying there like that?”
“It’s a bit cold.”
“Cold?”
As soon as Nisha finished speaking, he strode over and placed his hand on her forehead, freezing in place.
“…Why is your body temperature like this?”
Kagan looked down at her with a worried expression.
Seeing her shivering face, he quickly pulled back the blanket and grabbed her hand.
“…What on earth did you do?”
His voice, using an unusual tone from his usual, was filled with urgency as he took a deep breath and began to feel her body.
His large, warm hand brushed her neck, stroked her cheek, and then moved down her back and thighs, finally reaching her legs.
“Did you take a bath in ice water or something?!”
His voice, now rougher, wrapped her in the blanket and lifted her, heading back into the corridor.
“W-wait, I’m fine…”
“Hypothermia would be better than this. Do you even know what state your body is in? Are you trying to die?”
His sharp tone was fierce.
Anger was evident in his upturned eyes, and his gaze burned with intensity.
A stunned Nisha, at a loss for words, could only open and close her mouth silently.
His chest heaved with each breath he took.
“What happened?”
“It’s… one of the side effects.”
“Side effects…?”
“The cost… of the ability…”
As Nisha hastily added her explanation, Kagan raised an eyebrow.
He quickly entered her room, or rather, their room. He had given her a room to rest in comfortably due to the special nature of her abilities.
“You never mentioned this to me.”
His voice, which had been icy, softened slightly.
“I usually return to normal within an hour, so I didn’t think it was important enough to mention.”
Upon entering the room, he ran his hand over a gem hanging on one side and then laid her, still wrapped in the blanket, onto the bed.
Positioning himself between her legs, Kagan leaned over her, placing his hands on either side of her face.
“Tell me.”
“…What?”
“Tell me everything that could affect your health, no matter how trivial it may seem.”
He brought his face closer.
“Understood?”
His golden eyes gleamed, shining in the darkness like those of a wild beast.
“That…”
He was so close that she could feel their breaths mingling.
Unlike her, shivering with cold, he radiated heat, and just feeling their breaths intertwining made her body warm up.
“Answer me, Princess.”
His gentle voice coaxed her, and she slowly nodded.
“I… will.”
“That’s right, good girl. If I had known about these side effects, I would’ve put hot stones under your bed.”
“…Stones?”
“In Xieman, we have special stones that absorb and release heat. You need to sun them periodically, but they keep the mattress warm all night.”
Nisha’s eyes widened slightly. She really needed warmth at the moment. But she couldn’t imagine sleeping on stones. Wouldn’t it be uncomfortable, pressing into her back all night?
As she pondered this with a puzzled expression, the man suddenly moved closer.
