I Became a Barbarian's Bride - Chapter 52
“Titi? Are you alright?”
The former king slowly approached, kneeling on one knee to meet the gaze of his seated partner, and asked cautiously.
“Ah…”
At his call, she murmured softly, her eyelids trembling before slowly revealing her eyes.
A few days ago, her eyes had always been closed, but now they looked even clearer, directly meeting his gaze.
His heart pounded at the realization, and he had to resist the urge to clutch his chest.
It was hard to believe that her vision, which she had resigned herself to losing forever, had returned.
The once-cloudy pupils were now sharp, holding a brightness that seemed like a long-forgotten memory brought back to life.
In awe of this miraculous sight, the former king instinctively reached out and grasped her wrist.
“Your tear-ridden face is a bit much to see for the first time in a long time…”
Tatar gently cupped Orga’s cheeks with both hands, her own tears streaming silently.
“Wow, you really have aged a lot. I must have aged a lot too, right?”
“No, you look just the same as before.”
The large man, not knowing what to do, shook his head while placing his hand over hers on his cheek.
“Alright, I understand. Now, go to the corner and stop crying. What are you doing in front of the kids?”
“But I’m so happy…”
“Then go cry in the bathroom or something.”
“Yes…”
At his wife’s blunt words, Nisha blinked in bewilderment as she watched him sniffle and really go into the bathroom.
‘…Is this normal?’
Tatar, who had sent the former king away without a trace of regret, now looked at Nisha with a somehow refreshed expression.
“Sorry. That child always blamed himself for the loss of my sight.”
He… a child…?
Was he at an age to be called a child?
No, that couldn’t be right.
Why did she speak formally to Nisha and casually to the former king?
As Nisha tilted her head in bewilderment at the incomprehensible situation, Tatar rose from her seat, approached, and gently took Nisha’s hand.
“…Thank you.”
“No, it’s nothing… nothing much.”
Unable to overcome her awkwardness, Nisha responded hesitantly, her eyes darting nervously.
The warm smile and direct gaze from the other woman felt overwhelmingly unfamiliar and burdensome, causing Nisha to reflexively lower her eyes.
Despite knowing she shouldn’t avoid eye contact, she found it incredibly difficult.
Perhaps it was because someone used to strike her cheeks whenever their eyes met or because she had been harshly scolded for not lowering her head.
In any case, she forced a smile and spoke, her gaze slightly averted.
“If this is a side effect of the power, there’s a chance it could recur. In the case of the king, it seemed to only have a temporary effect.”
Nisha continued her explanation as calmly as possible.
“Anyway, if your vision deteriorates or you lose your sight again, please let me know. If I have a day or two, I can recharge and help you.”
Nisha looked down at her hands.
For the first time, she slept for 24 hours. In truth, ‘slept’ was an inaccurate term; it was more like dying and coming back to life.
Still, after charging her life force for a whole day, only half of it was drained this time, leaving her with half of her healing power.
‘With this, I can check Kagan’s eyes and then ask about the accommodations for the others.’
Having one purpose resolved made her feel slightly relieved.
She took a deep breath and slightly raised her head. Tatar was still looking at her.
Realizing she had zoned out, Nisha quickly spoke up.
“…Do you have anything else to say, Your Majesty?”
“No, no. You must be tired from using your power, go and rest.”
Nisha glanced at Tatar, making sure her expression didn’t show any displeasure or discomfort, and then slowly nodded.
“Thank you, then.”
Nisha bowed formally and turned to leave.
“Kagan, you should see her off. And if you have time later, could you come by?”
Kagan silently gazed at his mother’s eyes.
They were the bluest, clearest eyes he had ever seen since he was born.
“Kagan?”
“Alright.”
With a curt response, Kagan turned and followed Nisha out.
