I Became a Barbarian's Bride - Chapter 58
Her neck felt very ticklish, but Nisha awkwardly kept her posture straight and stayed still.
“Xieman is a polygamous and polyandrous society, right?!”
“Ah, yes. Why? Princess, are you planning to keep someone else beside you other than me?”
Somehow, in a grumpy voice, Nisha shook her head.
“No, I just asked out of curiosity. I don’t know much about Xieman’s culture…”
“Well, if it suits them, both men and women usually have several partners. This culture is more open than the outside world.”
Nisha nodded in agreement.
She wanted to ask when he planned to bring in a primary wife, but he seemed displeased with the topic she had brought up, so she swallowed her curiosity.
“Princess.”
“Yes?”
“How do I look?”
“Uh…”
Kagan suddenly lifted her to face him directly and drew his face very close to hers as he asked.
Not only were their breaths mingling, but their lips were also almost touching, causing her to swallow nervously.
Once again, her gaze was captured by the golden eyes right in front of her.
His high-bridged nose was so close that she could feel his breath. The tassel earrings hanging from his ears swayed, adding a touch of mystery to his exotic appearance.
The flowing silver hair tickled Nisha’s cheek.
She had rarely found people beautiful or attractive, but to Nisha, Kagan had an aspect that captured her attention more than anyone she had ever seen.
He was certainly beautiful.
“Am I your type, Princess?”
“…Huh?”
Reflexively, in a voice filled with absurdity, Nisha exclaimed as Kagan rubbed the back of his neck.
“Not yet, huh? I guess I’ll have to try harder to seduce you.”
“Why, why…?”
“Because you have to bear my child.”
At his straightforward words, Nisha’s mouth fell open in shock.
Kagan pressed her open lips with his finger and curved his eyes.
“Why? Should I devour you right now?”
Gasping, she quickly shut her mouth and shook her head.
“Me?”
“The oracle is quite important. Since the oracle appointed you as my wife, you have to bear my child.”
“Oh.”
Caught off guard by his words, she mumbled.
‘…Oh, is that why he’s been treating me well?’
Because the person designated by the oracle must bear a child.
‘At least that means I won’t be killed, right?’
Once she bears a child, she would have fulfilled the oracle’s will, and they wouldn’t kill her without reason.
‘So, I’ll bear the child, and someone else will raise it?’
It didn’t make sense that in a culture like Xieman’s, where they valued their own people above all else, an outsider would be kept as the primary wife.
“Is my job done once I bear the child?”
“That sounds a bit harsh… but yes, that’s the most important task. The oracle is ultimately for the next generation.”
Kagan nodded with a puzzled expression, while Nisha, her face a bit brighter, also nodded.
‘Then… could I be free after that?’
If the atmosphere stayed the same, planting roots in Xieman and living here wouldn’t be so bad.
“Yes, I’ll do my best.”
“No, it’s good and appreciated that you think of Xieman, but you don’t have to take it as such an obligation…”
At Kagan’s words, Nisha tilted her head.
“Then, I’ll just go and use my ability on a few spots.”
Thinking it would be best to pay the price quickly to get her garden, Nisha got up from his lap.
Suddenly, she was pulled back, her knees buckling as she fell back onto his lap.
“What are you saying, Princess? Please, let’s eat first. I’m starving.”
Muttering as if it was absurd, Kagan grabbed her hand and quickly left the room.
“Oh, I’m fine…”
“I know you’re slim, but if you don’t eat more, you’ll be all bones. Do you understand? Later, you’ll look like a walking skeleton.”
At his scolding voice, like an old man’s, Nisha’s eyes widened, and she burst into laughter.
At the sound of her clear laughter, Kagan paused and glanced back.
“You look pretty when you laugh, Princess.”
Kagan left a comment while smirking and led her to the dining room.

“Did you hear? The Katun has an amazing ability to revive the land.”
“Yeah, I heard. They say crops grew in just four days. Scholars are going wild, saying they can harvest in ten days at that rate.”
“Honestly, I didn’t expect much since she’s a foreigner…”
“Hey, watch your mouth. Are you crazy? If you want to get fired, do it yourself. I don’t want to ruin my life.”
“Does this girl have a rag in her mouth? Can’t even complain to a friend.”
(TL Note: “Rag in her mouth” seems to be a Korean idiom meaning the words being said are cruel/harsh)
After a tense exchange, they burst into laughter like young girls.
“Anyway, they say she came by divine oracle, and she really is exceptional.”
“The previous Katun was an incredible prophet who kept Xieman strong…”
“And the new Katun seems just as kind.”
The chatter was in very low voices, but unfortunately, every word reached Nisha’s ears as she strolled nearby.
