I Became a Barbarian's Bride - Chapter 79
‘…I miss Mary.’
She wanted to ask when Mary’s training would be over, when she could see her again.
But the fear of being told she was overstepping her bounds kept her from doing so.
He had reacted with such discomfort when she’d touched him briefly before.
And yet now, the way he approached her so casually felt all the more confusing.
‘I don’t get it.’
She couldn’t understand this man at all. He had clearly shown dislike before, and now, she didn’t know why he was coming close so easily again, or why he had been so cold during the banquet yet was acting kind again now.
‘My stomach hurts…’
Nisha rubbed her chest a couple of times.
She had been standing still, making sure her hand didn’t accidentally brush against him. Only when Kagan finally let go of her did she release a silent sigh and step back.
“Get ready and come to the dining room, Princess.”
With a slight smile on his face, Kagan spoke to her, and Nisha gave a faint smile in return as she nodded.
“Yes.”
Only after Kagan left could she finally relax her tightly wound body.
Nisha’s heart had recently been leaping from her chest to her stomach, unpredictably rising and crashing with every inexplicable mood of the man she couldn’t understand.
It was because, when he treated her kindly, she felt some sense of relief, but the fear that he might change at any moment loomed large in her mind.
‘Is it because of the farm work?’
As she tried to reason why he had suddenly become more friendly, Nisha called for the maids.
She realized it out of habit—she was about to dress herself again.
What queen of any nation dresses herself?
Thinking back to how startled the two maids had been on her first day, she decided it was not a wise choice.
“Good morning, Katun!”
“Did you sleep well?”
It wasn’t long before she heard a knock, and Anita and Jaya entered. Nisha smiled at them.
“Good morning. Did you two sleep well?”
“Yes! Of course. We heard you’re going out for an inspection today.”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“We’ll be coming along too. Since your skin is sensitive, we’ll prepare a light robe that you can wear over your clothes today.”
“It’s made of one of Xieman’s specialties—light, breathable, but excellent at blocking the sun.”
As Nisha listened to their detailed explanations, she nodded.
If you listened carefully, you would realize Xieman had many unique specialties that other countries didn’t possess.
There was the mysterious stone that absorbed heat during the day and released it at night, and even thin fabrics that could block the sun’s heat.
Though these garments were somewhat unconventional, to be honest, Nisha found them very comfortable.
It was as if the days of wearing corsets that squeezed her waist were nothing but a distant dream.
Of course, without anything constricting her, she did need to be more mindful of what she ate.
There wasn’t much she could do about it.
After all, if she were to fall out of favor even slightly, she could be discarded at any moment.
At least, that’s how Nisha thought.
People have their own uses. People unconsciously and consciously sort through these to decide whom to keep close.
Nisha, who hadn’t yet fully demonstrated her abilities, could only warm the bed for now.
And even that… after the first night, all he did was hold her like a cushion while they slept, without making any advances.
‘Is someone like Princess Rose his type?’
Bright, lively, and radiant.
Completely different from her—calm, quiet, and shadowy.
But even so, it wasn’t as though her personality could change overnight, so there was nothing Nisha could do.
And it wasn’t something she could just ask about either. She might get scolded for it.
“…It’s difficult.”
“Hm? What’s difficult?”
“Oh, nothing. I was just thinking it’s hard to know how to go about today’s inspection.”
She quickly corrected herself.
The two maids chuckled softly and spoke in gentle tones.
“Everyone will be happy just to see you, Tun.”
“…Will they?”
“Yes, it’s been centuries since the last oracle descended. And every time an oracle has come, a golden age has followed in Xieman.”
“That’s right, everyone will love you, Katun.”
At the words of the two maids, Nisha nodded with an uncertain expression.
