I Became a Barbarian's Bride - Chapter 86
The confusion, bewilderment, and all the chaotic emotions reflected in her blinking violet eyes were palpable to him.
Kagan, feeling the overwhelming sensation of having too much to say and nothing coming out, ended up letting out a dry laugh.
‘Come to think of it, I said we’d talk before and never did.’
He didn’t even want to imagine how many misunderstandings she had accumulated on her own.
After a long moment of silence, while deep in thought, Kagan looked into her swirling eyes and finally spoke.
“We don’t really use the term ‘primary wife’ here, but if it means what I think it does, then my only primary wife is you, Princess.”
“…What?”
“I mean, you’re the only one for me!”
Seeing Nisha, who seemed utterly confused and unwilling to understand, Kagan raised his voice.
He had tried to be gentle around her, thinking he had scared her too much at first, but now he realized just how absurd her misunderstanding was.
No, what is she even talking about?
“Why… Why is that? What about Princess Rose? And that brief introduction we had with the Arha tribe leader—aren’t you going to bring them in as well?”
“No…”
Kagan’s lips parted in disbelief.
Why were those two names even mentioned?
He was torn between asking her why she thought that or firmly denying any such notion.
He couldn’t figure out which option to address first.
‘Ah, forget it.’
Thinking that thinking things through wasn’t really his style, Kagan decided to just say whatever came to mind.
“Like I said, there are no multiple Tuns. The first person the Kagan marries becomes the Tun. That’s it.”
“…What?”
“So, the one who bears the responsibility of Tun is only the first spouse the Kagan marries.”
Nisha’s eyes widened in shock.
She clearly hadn’t considered this possibility, and the realization left a bitter taste in her mouth.
Kagan roughly ran his hand through his hair before continuing.
“There’s only one Tun, and while others can be brought in later, they’re just concubines.”
“…”
“For the Kagan, the only partner is the Tun, and for the Tun, the only partner is the Kagan.”
His voice seemed to carry an extra weight as he finished.
Nisha, overwhelmed by the sudden flood of information, could only silently open and close her mouth, too stunned to speak.
“So… are you saying that’s really how it is?”
“Yes. I don’t know what’s been going through your mind, but I never intended to bring anyone else into our marriage other than you.”
“But you love Princess Rose… don’t you? I heard you even had a relationship with her.”
At Nisha’s words, Kagan visibly flinched.
‘How the hell did she…?’
‘I should’ve made sure those bastards kept their mouths shut.’
Kagan muttered quietly with a somewhat gloomy expression as he held her hand.
“I did have a relationship, but it was brief. It was just a childish fling before I even became an adult, and to be clear, I never loved her.”
He quickly added that it was just a relationship born out of curiosity during a time when neither of them knew anything.
“And I ended things with her properly… nothing more came of it.”
“Nothing more?”
“I mean, we didn’t go beyond hugging.”
At Kagan’s words, Nisha tilted her head.
“Uh… isn’t that irrelevant…?”
That didn’t seem like the most important point in this conversation. What mattered more was how completely shocking this situation was to her.
Everything was the opposite of what she had believed.
Kagan froze at Nisha’s nonchalant response.
He suddenly felt like he was on the verge of ending up in a lonely, loveless marriage.
Or worse, she might tell him it was fine if he found someone else to spend time with elsewhere.
‘Am I really that unattractive?’
He had seen plenty of women who liked him, but this was the first time he encountered one who seemed utterly disinterested. With a bewildered expression, Kagan looked at the woman in his arms.
“So… you’re saying that from now on, I’ll be the only Tun?”
“Yes, and that won’t change.”
“You mean… you’re not going to bring anyone else in…?”
“That’s right.”
Nisha’s expression darkened slightly. After a long silence, she cautiously spoke.
“Then… does that mean I can’t bring anyone else in either?”
