“……”

“Of course, even in despair, a manageable price is paid, but it’s never light.”

At Kagan’s words, Nisha remained silent, taking in the sight of his back.

“My mother lost her sight forever just to see what others couldn’t. And I’ve lived my entire life, since the moment I was born, enduring searing pain so intense that it made me want to rip my eyes out, all because of an ability I can barely control.”

“……”

“There’s probably a price you’re unaware of. You can heal any illness, turn dead land into fertile ground, and yet all it costs is 24 hours of sleep? Something doesn’t add up. It’s unsettling.”

Kagan said this with a smile directed at Nisha.

“Of course, my main concern is still your weak stamina and health, but…”

This thought had started to make more sense after the physician raised other possibilities during his last visit.

Kagan was still trying to figure out the answer, uncertain as it was. Sometimes, the cost comes later, and he wanted to be prepared.

“When you feel better, would you be willing to climb that mountain?”

“The mountain?”

“Yes, we need to pay our respects at least once.”

There was no need to ask to whom. It was clear he meant the god of Xieman.

‘But sometimes I see smoke rising. Is it safe to climb a volcano like that?’

“If it’s an active volcano, I’ve heard there’s usually sulfur gas… Isn’t that dangerous?”

“It’s fine. For the people of Xieman, it’s not poisonous.”

“And me…?”

“You’re one of my people now, so it’ll be fine.”

‘Will it really be fine…?’

For a moment, she wanted to ask again, but the words stuck in her throat, and instead, Nisha swallowed a sigh and slowly nodded.

“Oh, by the way, the banquet hall for you is ready.”

“Banquet hall?”

“Yes, we’ve got plenty of time, and there are young noble ladies in Xieman as well. It might be a little different from the social gatherings you’re used to, but I thought it would be nice to have something similar.”

“Ah…”

“You’ve done these often, right? Banquets or tea parties. You can host them comfortably whenever you want.”

At Kagan’s words, Nisha fell silent.

She gave a small, polite nod with a faint smile on her face.

“Of course, whether you attend or not is up to you,” he added.

With his words, Nisha remained quiet, merely nodding again and exhaling slowly.

The thought of deceiving others left a bitter taste in her mouth.

“Well, let’s go.”

With her silent response, Kagan casually took her hand.

She didn’t mind the warmth from his touch and the firmness of his grip this time.

Nisha gently squeezed his hand and slowly blinked as she followed him.

***

“Oh my, I didn’t expect Tun to come.”

Having arrived at the location indicated on the invitation, Nisha slowly turned her head at the sound of the voice.

What she saw were women with extravagant appearances, all dressed in outfits that revealed their figures, almost like dancers.

Although they were called extravagant, most of them were at least a head taller than her, making it so that she had to either stand far away or crane her neck just to have a conversation.

‘Every time I talk to Kagan, it feels like my neck’s going to snap…’

Is this the average height here?

Even as she thought this, Nisha nodded slowly.

The hostess appeared to be the woman in the center, with black eyes and short, deep purple hair adorned with layers of jewels.

She was also the one who first approached and spoke, mentioning that she hadn’t expected her to arrive so early.

“You sent me an invitation, so I couldn’t refuse.”

“Oh, you could have refused. Xieman people are pretty laid-back, so we don’t mind such things.”

At the woman’s words, Nisha hesitated briefly before nodding slowly.

“I came simply out of courtesy.”

When she answered calmly, the woman paused, then laughed brightly, gesturing further inside.
