I Became a Barbarian's Bride - Chapter 99
“Ah.”
Nisha raised her hand, wiped her face once, and pressed her still-echoing ears firmly with her palms before slowly lifting her head.
“Kagan?”
“What are you doing?! Are you hurt? Princess.”
“Ah.”
It was only then that Nisha realized she must have looked rather strange and quickly shook her head.
“No.”
“What do you mean no?”
As Kagan asked with a hardened expression, Nisha hurriedly added.
“When I submerge, the world gets quiet, so I sometimes do this while bathing. It’s just a habit. I come up as soon as I run out of breath.”
“…Is that what it was?”
Kagan let out a sigh and roughly ran his hand through his hair.
“Sorry, did I worry you?”
“I was worried, thinking something might be wrong. You’ve been pushing yourself twice a week recently.”
“Oh, that’s not it. My body felt a little cold, so I just wanted to take a hot bath, that’s all.”
As she spoke, Nisha’s gaze dropped, and she froze in place.
Her bare, pale body was fully exposed before the man.
Turning deathly pale, Nisha quickly sank back down into the bathtub.
“Nisha?”
“Could you leave so I can get dressed?”
“I’ve already seen…”
“Please leave.”
Nisha spoke with her cheeks flushed, and he slowly nodded at her words.
Only after Kagan, rubbing the back of his neck, retreated did she cautiously stand up.
As she dried herself off, the sudden image of Kagan’s face flashed through her mind.
‘…He seemed a bit anxious.’
It was as if he had seen something unbelievable, his expression slightly uneasy.
‘Did he see something again?’
She had heard that he often saw things in others, things like their deaths, their lives, or pasts that normal people couldn’t perceive.
Though it was different from his mother, the previous Katun.
Nisha slowly inhaled and then shook her head while rubbing her forehead.
After drying herself off and slipping into a negligee, she stepped outside, where Kagan stood leaning against the window, gazing quietly out at the scenery.
He often did that.
She didn’t know if he liked this changed land or if it was something else entirely.
“You’ve been looking out the window a lot lately.”
“Nisha.”
He acknowledged her, as though he had been waiting for her to finally come out, nodding his head.
“I’ve lived 27 years, but it still doesn’t feel like this is the place I live in. It’s quite strange. And yet, oddly unsettling.”
“Unsettling?”
“I don’t know why, but when I just look out, it feels a bit distant… or should I say, there’s this strange chill that runs through my heart…”
He shrugged, adding that he couldn’t seem to calm down, only feeling anxious.
“Maybe it’s because I’m not used to it.”
Nisha tilted her head in curiosity but responded with a nod, asking, “Is that so?”
“But, why are you here all of a sudden?”
“When you sleep alone, I always come by the next morning, yet today you were being a bit too much.”
At his dissatisfied tone, Nisha widened her eyes in surprise and hurriedly shook her head, trying to explain.
Watching her flustered response, Kagan burst into laughter, striding toward her and wrapping his strong arms tightly around her waist.
“I came because I missed my princess. It’s lonely sleeping alone.”
“Oh, yes.”
“Can’t you at least look a little more excited?”
“Pardon?”
Seeing Nisha’s wide-eyed reaction, Kagan shook his head with a sigh, muttering, “Never mind.”
He already knew from the start that she was indifferent and emotionally reserved, so it wasn’t surprising.
Still, every time they shared intimate moments, and he kissed the back of her neck, her cheeks and neck would flush bright red, yet she never let herself be completely honest with him—something that left him feeling just a little unsatisfied.
“Nisha.”
“Yes?”
“I have a favor to ask… could you listen to me for a moment?”
