I Became A Renowned Arts Genius At My Arts High School - Chapter 11
“This is insane.”
“Wow, dude! Hey, everyone, look at this!”
“Whoa. Han Soohyun. Starting tomorrow, go straight to the third-year classroom.”
5:30 PM.
After the exam ended, those who were busily spraying fixatives, fearing that the pencil lines might smudge, discovered Soohyun’s drawing and flocked to it like a cloud.
“As expected, the hand of God is perfect again.”
“Teacher, but isn’t drawing someone more handsome than the plaster statue cheating?”
“Yes, teacher. Drawing someone even more handsome seems like a distortion of form. I’m curious if it becomes a negative element!”
The kids praised Soohyun’s drawing while making jokes. Unintentionally, Soohyun chuckled at their cute reactions.
“This one’s tearing it up again.”
Cha Yoonhee, who had been peering into other classrooms, noticed Soohyun and confidently walked into the practical exam room.
“Wow, seriously well-drawn. What’s this, you?”
Cha Yoonhee spoke confidently.
“Oh, I’m the best drawer in our class, but this. It doesn’t compare.”
When Soohyun subtly pulled Cha Yoonhee’s wrist, giving a glance to stop, it unexpectedly had the opposite effect.
“Why, why. Embarrassed? Does a person who knows embarrassment draw like this? Do you draw so that everyone’s attention is focused like this?”
“Ugh, here we go again. Stop it. Go out. This isn’t even your classroom.”
“Ah, fine. Submit it quickly and come out. I’m starving to death.”
Cha Yoonhee laughed teasingly, and Soohyun smiled slyly as she submitted her drawing.
She had gotten a little carried away earlier, while correcting the issue with the lottery, but after she calmly took the test, my mood changed again.
Seventeen again.
A part of her always longed to return to those days. A time when she drew most innocently and searched for things to draw.
Of course, there were difficulties. She had a complicated family life, and she was often upset, but she didn’t know if there was ever a time in her life where she shone as brightly as this one.
As Soohyun blended into the crowd of Yoonhee and her other friends and headed for the cafeteria, she checked her reflection in the glass windows and mirrors of the hallway several times.
This isn’t a dream, this really isn’t a dream.
She was so grateful.
But unlike Soohyun, a second-year student, the youth of this era have a lot of things to worry about.
“Ha, I’m screwed.”
Cha Yoonhee let out a world-crushing sigh and pointed her finger at the long line.
“Yeon Young and the girls must have been late for practice today, too.”
The line stretched outside the cafeteria. From the looks of it, it was going to be a twenty-minute wait.
“Ugh, it’s almost Bongo* time.”
(T/N: 봉고 is a car, and romanized as ‘bongo’, specifically a small truck. From the context of the novel, it seems to refer to a sort of shuttle service. Will be elaborated on in the next few lines.)
Cha Yoonhee rubbed her stomach in an exaggerated gesture and frowned.
“That’s right, you take a bongo. Was it a Yangjae bongo?”
“What, you’re not interested in me? You hurried because of the bongo, right?”
In response to Soohyun’s question, Cha Yoonhee pursed her lips.
As Sehyeon High School was a specialized high school on a national level, the addresses of the students varied. The dormitory kids had nothing to worry about, but it was common for commuters to drive to school in their parents’ cars or use vans organized by region.
In any case, depending on the neighborhoods, students were grouped to take the shared vans. Cha Yoonhee used the Yangjae Bongo.
Since the return time was fixed, there was no time to linger at the snack bar if they wanted to keep the scheduled time.
“Let’s quickly grab some bread or something,” Soohyun suggested.
In response, Yoonhee shrugged her shoulders.
“I can handle it. What about you?”
“Huh?”
Soohyun recalled another forgotten fact in response to Yoonhee’s question.
It was from the midterms of the first semester of freshman year. She was living in a dorm.
“Didn’t you say you don’t have anyone to eat dinner with?”
Yoonhee asked with concern, lowering her voice.
Thanks to her question, Soohyun could recall the face of another friend she needed to reassess the relationship with.
