“Beep-.”
Memory is quite fascinating.
Things you thought you had completely forgotten become vivid as if it happened yesterday when you encounter them again.
Sehyeon High School dormitory.
Although she vaguely remembered which room she lived in, as she turned the hallway’s corner, one door caught her eye, familiar and known.
Yes, that was my room.
Soohyun gripped the doorknob and stepped inside.
Whoosh-.
A familiar scent hit her nose.
Iron beds, wooden desks, textbooks, and workbooks – all very ordinary, yet the scent of cherished memories filled the air.
The Sehyeon High School dormitory rooms were designed for two people.
There were two bunk beds, two desks, two wardrobes, and enough space to put a small table and sit around.
So in the hotter months, rather than sit in the small room, it was common to wander around the air-conditioned library or practical room, and then sneak in.
“It’s gone.”
As expected, it was an empty room.
Only my roommate’s school uniform was strewn about like a mess, as if she had been in a hurry to change after class.
Park Seon Hwa.
A friend with an incredibly lively and unique personality. She went on to study in the art department and later went to France, if he remembered correctly. She wasn’t highly regarded during Sehyeon High School days due to lacking practical skills, but she became famous after graduation.
Who would have known that the carefree Park Seon Hwa was the only daughter of the prominent businesswoman Il Sun Hwa and Kang Yoo Jin. And that she would become the representative of the Sua Gallery.
“Come to think of it, this place was like a gold mine with treasures hidden everywhere.” Soohyun chuckled and shook her head.
As Sehyeon High School was a prestigious institution, the children of well-off families were common along the streets. It was difficult for ordinary families to provide early education for something like art.
There were business owners, artists, politicians, or celebrities who had their children here. Even though these kids wore the same uniform, they somehow exuded a unique aura.
Soohyun often found herself avoiding those kids for no apparent reason, retreating into solitude. However, upon reflection, she wondered why she had shunned innocent approaches. Some of them genuinely approached with pure hearts.
“It was unnecessary pride.”
Thinking that if it weren’t for the scholarship, she wouldn’t have attended Sehyeon High School, Soohyun was the one who built walls and distanced herself first.
Because of that, she spent an awkward year with Park Seon Hwa, who was her roommate in the dormitory.
Park Seon Hwa tried to get closer, showing a keen interest in Soohyun, who was ranked first in practical skills. Still, Soohyun always maintained a defensive barrier. Of course, Seon Hwa’s incomprehensible behavior played a significant role in keeping that distance.
“Just one drawing. Give me just one drawing.”
It wasn’t just one bite of her lunch. Seon Hwa often pleaded with other students to give her a drawing once. Some students nonchalantly handed over drawings that had nothing to do with college entrance exams, while others were more guarded.
“Enough. What’s the big deal?”
“Why are you asking for someone else’s drawing?”
There were many instances of treating her like a strange kid while keeping a distance. And Soohyun…
“Can’t you show me your drawings?”
“I don’t really have any impressive drawings to show.”
She kept her sketchbook tightly closed and never showed it to anyone.
“This time, I should show as many as they ask for. Give them as they demand.”
Click.
Soohyun opened her locked locker and took out the cherished sketchbook.
