I Became A Renowned Arts Genius At My Arts High School - Chapter 13
‘You drew a lot.’
The more time she spent alone, the better she drew.
‘After school, break time – I drew in all the available time without rest.’
Early on, Soohyun found her own subject matter outside of the entrance exams. At that time, revealing them made her cautious, but looking back, it was something he regretted.
‘I should have shown more and let them know it was mine. It would have been better if it caught the eye of someone like Park Seon Hwa.’
Later on, Seon Hwa displayed the drawings she obtained from Sehyeon High School friends in her gallery, ‘Gallery Sua.’
Not only the drawings from high school but also those collected afterward were part of the exhibition. Thanks to her excellent insight, the exhibition was a great success. The interest in emerging artists who unexpectedly appeared in the exhibition intensified.
“Did artists like Im Hyun Ho, Park Geon Young, and Seo Jin Hee break into the world market with Park Seon Hwa’s help?”
Soohyun remembered being surprised later on. Unlike other affluent kids, Park Seon Hwa was considered an eccentric figure who didn’t boast about her background. It was perceived as a lack of talent.
‘She may have been weird, but she wasn’t the kind of friend who would steal or take advantage of other people’s paintings. So I should open my mind and get along with her this time. I’m curious to see how she would evaluate my paintings with her great insight, and it might bring me unexpected opportunities.’
In that moment of idealism…
Beep-.
The dormitory door opened cautiously, and Park Seon Hwa walked in.
“Oh, Soohyun. You’re here. Have you eaten?”
“Yeah. Sort of.”
“Huh.”
Park Seon Hwa stopped in surprise at Soohyun’s answer.
“Why?”
“What’s going on? You answered my question right away?”
“Huh?”
Soohyun couldn’t remember the details, but when she saw Park Seon Hwa’s slightly emotional face, something like guilt tightened in my chest.
“D-did I?”
“No. You had every right to be angry, because I forced myself to look at your paintings.”
Approaching Soohyun, Park Seon Hwa held her hand, nodded, and apologized, admitting that everything was her fault.
“I won’t do that again. I was too pushy that day, wasn’t I?”
“No, showing drawings isn’t that difficult. I was just sensitive.”
When Soo-hyun replied with a vague guess about what happened around this time, Park Sun-hwa looked even more moved.
“Really?”
“Huh?”
“Are you really going to show me? Your drawings?”
“Yeah, um, sure.”
“Ah, that’s a relief.”
Park Seon Hwa released Soohyun’s hand and dropped to the floor.
“I was so worried you were going to hate me.”
“Oh. Why go that far?”
“You, you really got angry. I teased you a bit, but I didn’t expect you to get so angry.”
This time, Park Seon Hwa’s eyes welled up with tears. She had jumped in without thinking, but Soohyun’s sharp reaction had hurt her.
“But about the drawings. Can I show you next week instead of now?”
Soohyun looked at Park Seon Hwa, who was smiling, and said,
“Next week?”
“Uh, actually, I have a painting that I’d like to hear your impressions on, but I think I’ll need some time to finish it.”
“Oh. So you’re going to show it to me first?”
“Well… I didn’t really think about it that much, but I don’t think I’ll show it to anyone else.”
“Wow! That’s so great!”
Park Seon Hwa grabbed Soohyun’s hand and jumped around the room with a wide smile.
Even though it seemed like an age to laugh at the falling leaves, wasn’t her emotional rollercoaster a bit intense?
Soohyun stared blankly at Park Seon Hwa for a moment.
“Well then, since today is Friday, how about next Monday?”
“Monday? Sure, I think I can wrap it up by the weekend.”
Soohyun nodded with a small smile. She already had a lot of drawings in her sketchbook, so she could show them to him, but there was a reason she wanted to make new ones.
In the near future, she wanted to show a painting that would match Park Seon Hwa’s discerning eye, who would become the representative of Gallery Sua. Additionally, she wanted to test her current skills to see how far she could depict with his returned abilities.
“Okay, then let’s meet next Monday morning before the class starts.”
While humming a tune, Park Seon Hwa took out her diary and drew lots of stars in the Monday slot for the next week.
Soohyun chatted a bit more with the excited Park Seon Hwa, then picked up her art supplies and headed slowly towards the art studio.
