I Became the Only Healer in the Academy - Chapter 14.2
Hanwook bent his waist once more towards where Seonghyun had been.
If a moment ago he had expressed gratitude to Seonghyun for saving his life, now it was in reverence for the courage and selflessness to bear another’s pain.
“I won’t squander the life you saved.”
What was losing one arm in comparison?
If one was missing, he could wield a sword with the other; and if both were gone, he would find another way to live.
Separated from Hanwook, Seonghyun became lost in thought on the way home.
‘Hanwook Park, Hanwook Park…’
The name seemed familiar, yet unfortunately, he couldn’t recall where he might have heard it.
“Is there no separate method to check the proficiency level?”
Surely, it must have a deep connection to the growth of the healing ability, but since he couldn’t see the extent, it felt like he had hit an invisible wall of some sort.
“It’s too unfriendly…”
If there was an unknown entity displaying such windows, it probably hoped for Seonghyun’s growth, yet it didn’t seem willing to make it easy.
“It’s as if it wants me to suffer…”
The creation of the Sacrificial Spirit ability seemed to be somewhat related to this.
Otherwise, there couldn’t be such a connection to pain.
[Opening]
“Opening?”
It was the most welcoming yet the most terrifying sound.
When the healing ability was discovered, the word “Open” had appeared, and the same word came up when the ability burdened with an immense penalty, Sacrifice, was unlocked.
[Faith]
“Faith…?”
No matter how he looked at it, the word carried a distinctly religious undertone.
As a non-religious person, Seonghyun couldn’t comprehend why a word seemingly related to religion was appearing.
“Could this unknown entity showing these windows be godlike in some way?”
Despite many questions, the window, seemingly indifferent to Seonghyun’s thoughts, revealed the next word.
[Faith: You are a supreme being to someone.]
[When using abilities on a supported individual, the basic effect of sacrifice does not apply.]
[The effect of Sacrificial Spirit is increased by an additional 10%.]
[You can locate the target when they are in pain.]
[However, you must receive blind faith and trust.]
“Oh…”
For the first time, an ability appeared without any conditions attached that yielded benefits. What’s more, the gains weren’t just one.
“To someone, I’m like a supreme being… like a god?… Probably Hanwook, right?”
At the time the window appeared, it seemed that no one but Hanwook fit the description.
“So, if I use my abilities on Hanwook in the future, I won’t feel any pain, and my physical abilities will improve only through the Sacrificial Spirit, right?”
Could there be a better ability than this?
Simply enhancing physical abilities would be admirable on its own, but not feeling any pain along with that was remarkable.
And, above all, being able to locate the target was astounding.
“Can’t apply it to my family…”
It was a bit disappointing that he couldn’t do it for his family, but even so, this much was incredibly satisfying.
Quietly pondering, he realized that all the abilities were interconnected.
There wasn’t a single ability that didn’t relate to the others.
“In the future, it might be easier to perform daily quests.”
It was an assumption, but Hanwook probably started working as a hunter for the sake of his family.
If that was the case, the window would continue to appear in the future, and as he had no experience yet, he would inevitably get hurt.
“I’ve put out the urgent fire now…”
With everything wrapped up and concluded regarding the outcome of the situation, Seonghyun slouched on the bench, letting out a heavy sigh.
‘This darn window…’
It was clear how desperately he was trying to take control of it.
It was irritating to the point of frustration.
“Phew, need to go home and rest.”
Despite achieving significant gains today, Seonghyun headed home with a slightly lighter mindset.
“What about today’s quest…”
[Sage’s Exclusive Daily Quest Remaining Time: 10 hours]
Seonghyun didn’t want to lose control to this window anymore.
“So many limitations.”
Certainly, considering the acquired abilities, these kinds of limitations were not actually constraints.
There was only one of its kind, not just in South Korea but in the whole world, so not even a similar ability existed.
However, such rarity and control were separate matters.
“How should I handle this bothersome daily quest?”
To heal someone, there needed to be wounds, and if people had wounds, there would be many in hospitals or places where injuries occurred.
“…Alright. Let’s do it like yesterday.”
Since these were things that only needed to be done once a day, Seonghyun decided not to worry much about it.
As Seonghyun finished his thoughts, the homeroom teacher, who still seemed a bit flustered, entered with heavy steps.
“Alright, next week, we have ability assessments. Everyone’s aware, right? And the following week, we’ll be electing the class representative for the academy.”
‘If it’s the class representative… Ah, I remember now.’
The class representatives were selected based on the test scores that came out every semester. Once chosen, the representatives from different classes in the first year engaged in a fierce competition.
Each year, all grades followed the same process, and the representatives from each year gathered, again engaging in a competition.
“And what comes after that…”
There was the National Contest, held at the end of each year, which could be called a festival for each academy.
“Since it’s difficult for first-year students to participate in the National Contest, think of it as gaining experience.”
Although the academy consisted only of adults, the difference between being 20 and 21 years old was more significant than one might imagine.
Ten years of experience and eleven years didn’t have a huge difference, but it was similar to the substantial gap between a rookie and someone with a year of experience.
Those who had just recently unlocked their abilities were in their first year at the academy, while the second years had gained a multitude of experiences through subjugation and competitions after their first year.
“Still, if chosen as the first-year representative, one can commission the academy’s equipment manufacturing department for production.”
At the mention of the academy’s equipment, the classroom buzzed with excitement.
Manufacturing equipment was generally quite intricate.
It involved the inclusion of decision-making elements within the materials and there weren’t too many hunters with manufacturing-related abilities.
“Next week, you’ll be able to review the test material in advance.”
The homeroom teacher finished speaking and left the classroom, dragging his shoes along.
‘…Will the results of this test be somewhat different?’
According to his past memories, Seonghyun was distant from such tests. He had received scores that were close to failing one after another.
‘Even though I’ve gained new abilities, let’s not get complacent.’
He didn’t even aspire to become the first-year representative, but at least being the class representative would salvage his pride.
