I Became the Only Healer in the Academy - Chapter 19.2
“Kim Seonghyun.”
“What is it?”
“Mind if we talk for a moment?”
The person addressing him was Koo Sang-yeon, someone who had been the class representative, before Seonghyun’s return.
“Talk? Is it something that shouldn’t be discussed here?”
“That’s why we’ll talk like this. Come with me.”
“Fine.”
Assuming this person was likely the current class representative in the absence of major variables, Seonghyun followed Sang-yeon’s lead.
Sang-yeon, who had stepped into an alley outside the academy building, looked at Seonghyun and questioned him.
“What did you do?”
“Hm? What do you mean?”
Perhaps thinking that Seonghyun was playing dumb, Sang-yeon furrowed his brow before asking again.
“How did you do it? How did you manage a perfect score in the first test, and in the second… yeah, I’ll admit that. But how did you get a perfect score in the first test?”
“What are you trying to say? That I cheated?”
Considering there were supervisors present during the tests, cheating seemed impossible. However, Sang-yeon didn’t seem to think so.
“Even if your ability’s rarity is high, and it being a half-baked ability with side effects… Did you use that ability that day in an attempt to gain favor from us?”
“…I don’t need to listen to this.”
This was the bottom line from the start.
There was no trust for others here.
“Whatever you think, I couldn’t care less. I didn’t cheat.”
“Yeah, of course. You’re someone the association watches out for, so whatever you do won’t be considered cheating.”
Sang-yeon seemed to have already made up his mind.
“It seems there’s no need for further conversation. Isn’t dialogue meant for resolving misunderstandings or sharing opinions? Right now, you’re just informing me.”
“Informing? No, it’s a warning.”
“A warning?”
“I don’t know what kind of trick you pulled to gain that ability, but don’t install yourself inside the academy relying on that pathetic ability alone.”
Sang-yeon left after delivering those words, glancing back at Seonghyun before exiting the alley.
“The most important thing for survival is one thing: understanding the situation.”
Sang-yeon disappeared after that statement.
“Is my perspective at this level now?”
In the past, Seonghyun would have been quite angry.
But after his return, the current situation was ironically amusing.
He had some expectations.
It was plausible for someone who used to struggle in the first semester to suddenly start scoring perfect marks.
“Maybe I should apply for an early graduation.”
By default, academy students couldn’t formally enter guilds. They were essentially employed on a temporary basis.
Before his return, Seonghyun hadn’t found a place related to his abilities after graduation.
Naturally, he had focused on honing his abilities, paying attention only to very special news like the solo-gates.
However, even Seonghyun was well aware of a certain fact: the increasing frequency of Gate openings.
Among the Gates currently open worldwide, the most dangerous were the Grade 1 Gates. Though it had the highest number, the Grade 1 Gate was unique—located only in the southern United States.
The majority of the other Gates were Grade 4 or 5, with a gradual increase in the appearance of Grade 3 Gates.
Right before Seonghyun’s return, there were quite a few Grade 1 Gates opened.
“I still need to stay within this fence.”
What Seonghyun needed right now was time.
He needed not just time, but leisure time.
The moment he left the academy, he’d have to reconsider all the support he was currently receiving and anticipate a partial dissolution of the security tied to his family.
There wasn’t much to gain from the academy classes themselves. He had already covered most of the material at least once.
“There isn’t much to gain from the current academy classes, but there’s plenty to gain from the academy itself.”
Certainly, saving many people during attack missions was a good thing. But what was good and what needed to be done were different.
Seonghyun wasn’t a divine messenger assigned a mission by the gods or someone bearing a lofty purpose.
Of course, if his healing had no side effects, being celebrated for helping everyone wouldn’t be bad. But even if it enhanced physical abilities, feeling others’ pain was not an easily chosen action for a normal person.
“For now, let’s just consider being the class representative and maybe the first year’s representative.”
Seonghyun was confident he would compete as the class representative.
With a perfect score in the first test and likely a score close to perfect in the second, judging by the proctor’s reactions.
“It would be nice to participate in the national tournament, but…”
Honestly, he didn’t aspire that far. The difference in skill between first and second years was considerable, but most third-year students were already active in renowned guilds.
If those who supported them in the mutated gate incident earlier were third-year students, they would have easily disposed of a goblin chieftain and come out of the gate effortlessly.
In reality, even possessing a simple and low-value ability, the mastery of that ability dictated the limits. Skill proficiency held a significant portion of one’s ability.
“I’ll aim to secure equipment support from the academy as the first year’s representative.”
Compared to equipment produced for common use, personalized gear tailored for individuals offered superior efficiency. This prompted Seonghyun to aim to be the representative.
