I Became the Only Healer in the Academy - Chapter 20.1
Koo Sang-yeon couldn’t forget what had happened at the mutated gate.
Though it hadn’t been long, it was a day that would probably remain etched in memory for a lifetime.
‘Kim Seonghyun…’
No matter how much he thought about it, Seonghyun had no reason to use his abilities there.
He was positioned toward the rear, and most suspicious of all was the fact that shortly after Seonghyun used his abilities, someone from the Association arrived.
As if they knew in advance.
‘Naturally, he would have a close relationship with the Association…’
Perhaps he even knew when the Association would arrive.
Otherwise, the timing of using the ability was just too coincidental.
“It’s not just one or two places that seem suspicious.”
“So, what are we going to do about it?”
And there were more people with thoughts similar to Sang-yeon than expected.
“They’re all playing around. Behind that mask.”
“Well…”
While Seonghyun’s ability itself was quite unusual and there was only one known ability, many had already begun to feel burdened by it. However, the students who experienced Seonghyun’s healing that day had become more sympathetic.
“I still don’t know what to do. Since there’s no outcome yet. If the eyes of the Second Examination Committee are properly watching, they wouldn’t just score based on the rarity of the ability.”
And right now, alongside the announcement of grades, there was the selection of the class representatives.
The homeroom teacher entered dragging worn-out slippers and put something on the chalkboard.
“The results of the first and second exams are posted here for confirmation. We’ll begin selecting the class representatives now.”
In the teacher’s hand lay today’s selection results.
“The ones called out now are the class representatives, so prepare yourselves and I’ll proceed with the announcement.”
The teacher started calling out names with a solemn expression.
“First… who scored full marks in both the first and second exams…”
There was a momentary pause, and the teacher continued, almost as if displeased with the name.
“It’s Kim Seonghyun.”
As Seonghyun’s name was called, many gazes instantly turned towards him.
Some with congratulatory looks, others with questioning glances.
“Next, we have Koo Sang-yeon, who scored full marks in the first test and received a second in the second test, and Kang Inhwan, who scored second in the first test and full marks in the second.”
All three were selected as class representatives.
Despite the peculiarity of the competitiveness, the class representatives were chosen based solely on skill and grades rather than combinations. Yet, this time, Seonghyun’s combination was quite good.
Koo Sang-yeon was a Hunter positioned at the front, Inhwan was a Hunter at the rear, and Seonghyun, positioned in the middle, was responsible for the basics of combat and could also provide healing.
‘The combination is good. The combination is good, but…’
The problem lies in the relationships.
Koo Sang-yeon seemed to look at Seonghyun negatively after yesterday’s encounter, leaving only Inhwan.
If Inhwan also harbored any resentment toward Seonghyun like Sang-yeon, the outcome would be evident even before a proper contest occurred.
“The three of you will prepare for your Year’s Representative Showdown starting today. There’s a schedule for next week, so try to coordinate as much as possible until then. You don’t have to attend classes until the Grade Representative Showdown takes place.”
At that moment, the gazes of the three named as class representatives exchanged with each other.
‘As for Inhwan…’
When Seonghyun met Inhwan’s gaze, he sighed with relief.
Unlike Sang-yeon, who still sent a mixture of irritation and disgust in his glance, Inhwan seemed indifferent, even closer to a friendly expression.
“But Inhwan wasn’t a class representative before…”
Receiving a second-grade in the first exam and full marks in the second indicated significant ability. At least enough talent to rise through the ranks in a prominent guild.
If that was the case, Inhwan might have lost his life in the incident at the mutated gate from his previous life.
‘Oh… that’s when the elite goblins had manifested.’
It wasn’t certain, but the thought of people who should have died being present was eerie.
Inhwan approached Seonghyun and spoke first.
“Counting on you, our healer.”
“Yeah, counting on you too.”
However, Sang-yeon seemed unwilling to engage in conversation.
With an air of determination, his unyielding posture conveyed a message of having no intention to exchange any words.
“Sang-yeon…”
“Don’t bother paying attention to that kind of guy. He probably went off to grumble with his flattery, as always.”
Watching Sang-yeon leave with a sense of disdain, Inhwan clicked his tongue.
“Do you know about my ability?”
“A little? Not in detail, of course.”
“Really? Then let me explain that pathetic guy’s ability that just left after.”
Seemingly quite approachable, Inhwan naturally took a seat beside Seonghyun and began explaining.
“I manipulate fire.”
“A fire manipulator?”
Being a fire manipulator wasn’t uncommon.
However, the fact of having enrolled in the academy set it apart from the usual fire manipulators, indicating something notably different.
“As you know, fire manipulators are common, but I’m a bit different. I handle azure flames.”
“Azure flames…”
Usually, fire manipulators differed in the intensity of their red flames, but they didn’t exhibit such a completely distinct color.
“I ignore fire resistance.”
Indeed, it was an extraordinary ability. Despite the potency of fire manipulation as an elemental skill, the reason it didn’t garner much fame was that most monsters inherently possessed fire resistance.
In such situations, a fire manipulator capable of ignoring resistances only retained the advantage of strong power.
“Sang-yeon isn’t your typical frontliner. His ability is completely focused on offense.”
“It’s ‘Berserk’…”
