I Became the Only Healer in the Academy - Chapter 20.2
“Yeah, do you know about the condition?”
As the condition was something new to Seonghyun, he looked at Inhwan silently for an answer.
“It has to do with his health dropping to a certain level.”
“Really? But if that’s the case…”
“That’s right. Once his health recovers, the berserk state fades away.”
Seonghyun pondered why Sang-yeon was so negative about his ability; it seemed the ability was a complete contradiction. It appeared there might be more to it than just that.
“Someone who needs to maintain wounds and someone who heals…”
“Who knows what the academy is thinking at times like this? Especially the teacher. To pair up a healer with someone whose strength weakens once healed.”
Seonghyun lightly chuckled at the rather acerbic evaluation.
“As for the other class representatives…”
“They’ll likely be the same bunch. The ones who did well in the first semester will probably come out again. There are only four classes in total anyway.”
With four classes in their year and the tournament format, winning twice in the contests meant they could become the representatives.
“Sang-yeon will probably continue like that. His attitude toward you wasn’t really pleasant from the start.”
Inhwan felt the discomfort in Sang-yeon’s gaze, which had been quite overtly unpleasant until now.
“We might not achieve much by coordinating among ourselves…”
“We can only hone our abilities. While I handle azure flames, I’m not yet skilled in control.”
Seonghyun also couldn’t immediately improve his proficiency in healing abilities.
Moreover, it didn’t seem necessary to forcibly enhance the proficiency of stigmata.
‘Perhaps it’s shared between healing and proficiency.’
Considering how naturally the healing had emerged when using stigmata for the first time, it was highly likely that they shared some form of connection.
Until the contest, there were things that needed to be done.
One was to synchronize as much as possible with Inhwan, who was right in front of him.
The other was the daily quest that had been gradually pressuring him each day.
‘At least the daily quest doesn’t seem difficult to clear now.’
“What should we do? Wanna head to the gate together? We could practice synchronizing a bit and improve our proficiencies, seems alright, doesn’t it?”
“Not a bad idea. When should we go? After academy?”
In response to Seonghyun’s question, Inhwan rose from his seat with an expression that seemed to ask what Seonghyun was talking about.
“We should go now. I want to try out the equipment they make directly at the academy. Participating in the national contest might be a stretch, but at least let’s try to be a grade representative.”
“Alright. That sounds good.”
Seonghyun grabbed Inhwan’s outstretched hand and stood up.
Then, they headed straight for the gate.
“I knew it’d be like this. Such a filthy hypocrite.”
Sang-yeon was filled with irritation at the prospect of being a class representative alongside Seonghyun.
“What are we going to do? Leave it like this? If I see that guy boasting about his rare ability as if he knows everything, it’s irritating.”
“…I’ll never be able to participate in the contest with that guy. You know about my ability, right?”
When the stamina drops below a certain level, the body undergoes a radical boost in physical capabilities during the frenzied state.
Immunities develop against physical attacks, reducing damage significantly, and the body doesn’t feel pain.
This ability wasn’t just a single advantage but had multiple facets. Yet, it all became worthless once Seonghyun’s healing came into play.
“In that case… how about this?”
Taehyun, one of Sangyeon’s followers, spoke with a rather meaningful expression.
“Do you have something in mind?”
“If we could prevent him from going as a class representative… wouldn’t that be simple?”
Sang-yeon fell into brief contemplation at Taehyun’s words.
“…Right, it would be better to definitively handle this situation than go out with Kim Seonghyun, that hypocrite.”
It wasn’t merely due to the imbalance of abilities.
The initial disclosure of the side effects via TV might have held a similar underlying message:
I’m willing to endure the pain on your behalf and provide healing, so serve me in return. Otherwise, I have no reason to bear your pain for you.
“But is there a way? The Association might also be paying attention.”
“They might not pay attention up to the point of interference. They aren’t that resourceful, and besides, Seonghyun’s group knows you won’t participate in aligning with them.”
“Then, should we involve Kang Inhwan?”
“Well… if we have no choice. Losing Kang Inhwan won’t weaken our power.”
It seemed to be the most realistic approach.
“Not bad. No, it’s the best option.”
Taking Seonghyun, who had no combat abilities, as a representative for the battle was a sure path to embarrassment and elimination.
“I saw them talking in the class earlier. They probably went to the gate just now.”
“Now? They’re in a rush. Anyway, they’ll keep going to the gate from now on. There are plenty of opportunities. It’s just a matter of time.”
Inhwan had exceptional power, yet control was challenging. Seonghyun’s ability required someone to get injured for it to be used. If they wanted to improve their skills, the gate was their only option.
Even if someone else was selected as the representative, delaying their decision would shorten the time available to align.
“Soonest today, latest tomorrow.”
“…Impulsive.”
Finishing their conversation, they veered off to their gate and headed down a different route.
