I Became the Only Healer in the Academy - Chapter 21.1
Seonghyun, once again, headed to the gate with Inhwan today.
“Should we delve a bit deeper today?”
Thanks to Seonghyun, Inhwan seemed to have gained some confidence.
Although he had never been injured so far, considering Seonghyun’s abilities demonstrated at the mutated gate, it was clear that he could easily treat minor wounds.
“Yeah. It seems like your ability’s proficiency has been increasing rapidly, isn’t it?”
“Haha, it has to. I spend several hours a day hunting.”
Except for meal times, Seonghyun has been dealing with gates almost all day, so it was impossible for his proficiency to not improve.
However, since Inhwan’s ability is so strong, opportunities for them to combine their strengths didn’t come easily.
“Are we going to hunt wolf-type monsters, then?”
“Yeah, we can’t keep hunting low-level monsters like goblins forever.”
They headed deeper into the gate.
When they reached the spot where he had rescued Park Han-wook before, a different kind of roar started echoing from the front..
“It’s a bit uneasy without the front line, but if we take them one by one, it should be manageable.”
In terms of firepower alone, they were more than capable of hunting wolf-type monsters.
Most of the first-year academy students had the talent to handle a one-on-one situation against a wolf-type beast.
The only issue was the problem with proficiency.
“There it is.”
“Oh, where?”
Seonghyun grabbed the wandering shoulder of Inhwan, who had not yet noticed the beast, and pulled him down.
“About 20 meters ahead. Can you hit it from this distance?”
“Is it alone?”
“Yes. It’s only one.”
“I’ve never done it at this distance before…”
“It’s okay, take your time.”
Seonghyun reassured the worried Inhwan.
What mattered now was raising Inhwan’s proficiency, which had the highest attack power and range among the three.
“Alright, I’ll give it a shot.”
Inhwan stood up and stared at the monster in front of him.
Fortunately, it seemed oblivious to its presence, as the atmosphere seemed peaceful.
“Ignition!”
After a brief concentration, Inhwan used his most damaging ability against a single target.
His ability creates blue flames on the opponent’s body. While ordinary red flames could be extinguished by conventional means, the blue flames had the power to consume the opponent’s inner self.
It wasn’t burning the skin but rather burning the magical power the target possessed.
The larger the magical power the target had, the more significant the damage it suffered.
This ability was truly extraordinary.
It required burning 10% of the magical power the target possessed to extinguish the flames.
However, large amounts of magical power is needed in order to use this ability, it requires the caster to assess the amount of magical power the opponent had before using it, ensuring it wouldn’t be a burden.
“Ah…”
However, the ignition did not occur on the intended target, the wolf-type beast. Instead, it applied on the remaining carcass of another magical beast that lay nearby.
“Grk!”
Thanks to this unexpected turn, the startled monster stood up abruptly, scanning its surroundings. It quickly identified the positions of Seonghyun and Inhwan.
“S-Sorry…”
“It’s fine. Now, let’s really focus.”
As Seonghyun had expected, the wolf-type monster was charging at them with full force.
“Stay calm and attack. I’ll handle the aggro.”
“Y-You?”
Although Seonghyun had already received a perfect score in the first exam, which required taking tests without using abilities, Inhwan didn’t fully trust it.
“Hurry! We don’t have time.”
Seonghyun drew his sword from its sheath and stood before the wolf-type monster.
It seemed much less intimidating than when he first encountered it.
The wolf-type monster opened its mouth, revealing massive fangs, and charged towards Seonghyun.
An act that clearly showed disdain for Seonghyun, with no sense of caution.
‘It does seem slow.’
Seonghyun lightly turned his body to the side, avoiding the jaws, and expected Inhwan’s follow-up attack from behind.
However, due to a lack of combat sense, the anticipated support attack from Inhwan never came.
“Inhwan…!”
Calling out Inhwan’s name with an urgent voice, Seonghyun looked to where Inhwan was, only to find an unfamiliar man standing there.
“Ah, don’t worry. I didn’t kill him.”
“W-Who…”
Seonghyun intended to ask who he was, but he didn’t have the luxury of time.
The monster in front of Seonghyun was once again rushing towards him with its mouth wide open.
“Haha! Looking at this situation, it seems like I don’t need to step in. Why don’t you try dealing with the monster in front of you first?”
The man, sitting casually on top of Inhwan, spoke to Seonghyun as if finding the situation amusing.
Clearly amused, the man was entirely off guard.
Even if the two were to fight together, it was certain that he couldn’t defeat him. With one already taken care of, the remaining one was dealing with a monster.
“…”
Seonghyun glared at the man, his temple veins throbbing with anger.
The approaching monster seemed utterly indifferent to his presence.
“Hmm? Gave up already…”
The man, removing the smirk that had lingered until now, looked at Seonghyun with puzzlement.
Given the current state, it was certain that Seonghyun’s body would be pierced by the monster’s massive fangs.
However, the situation didn’t unfold as the man had anticipated.
“Hmm? What’s going on? Why is it like that?”
The monster, which had moments ago fiercely charged as if to tear Seonghyun’s limbs apart, suddenly seemed to contract some kind of fatal illness, whimpering and collapsing to the ground.
“…What?”
Yet, there was something even more astonishing.
