I Became the Only Healer in the Academy - Chapter 27.1
“Are you okay? Any pain? Discomfort?”
Jinseok didn’t stop asking questions as he saw his parents didn’t look too well.
“Yeah… Just a bit of a headache, but it’s more bearable.”
“Me too. Don’t worry too much.”
Shortly after his parents woke up, the doctors arrived.
“How is this possible? There was clearly no chance of recovery…”
“May I take a closer look?”
“Yes, please do.”
With Jinseok’s permission, the doctors began examining his parents.
“…It’s truly fascinating. The curse remains, but the pain has decreased…”
“So, does this mean they’re okay now? Can they be discharged?”
Jinseok’s wish was simple.
To leave this hospital as soon as possible.
It wasn’t that he disliked the hospital or distrusted the doctors, but he felt that he could only truly feel okay after being discharged.
“I’m sorry, but we need to observe the progress a bit more. The curse hasn’t disappeared completely, so the pain may intensify again.”
“Ah…”
“But there haven’t been any cases quite like this. When ordinary people are exposed to attacks from monsters, there is no cure available.”
Despite Jinseok’s still dark expression, the doctors seemed to have found hope.
The doctors began installing various devices next to his parents’ beds.
“…”
For some reason, Seonghyun, who had briefly visited yesterday and then left, seemed more trustworthy than the doctors installing all sorts of devices.
“Ugh…!”
“Is the pain getting worse?”
Struggling to answer the doctor’s question, Jinseok’s parents grimaced, finally managing to respond with gasps.
“Yes, yes, Doctor…”
“As expected…”
The doctor alternated between checking the devices and the parents, jotting something down. After several checks, the doctor approached Jinseok with the expression of a scientist discovering uncharted territory.
“We’ve obtained quite meaningful results. Perhaps… a full recovery might be possible.”
“Really? But why is my parents’ pain getting worse?”
Jinseok’s parents were already in a state of unconsciousness due to the returning pain.
“The curse remains as it is.”
“Does that mean…”
“But don’t worry too much. Although the curse remains, the threshold for feeling pain has decreased.”
The doctor showed Jinseok the document he had just written.
“In simple terms, if yesterday’s pain was a 10, today they are experiencing the maximum pain equivalent to 9.”
“Is that even possible?”
“We’ve never seen anything like this before. Similar cases are unheard of. We don’t know what happened today, but if events like today continue, the curse will remain, but eventually, the pain will be nonexistent.”
It wasn’t an easy thing to accept.
The curse remains, but the pain is no longer felt.
“So, in terms of life…”
“They should be fine. This curse usually leads to unbearable pain and imminent death. But now that they don’t feel that pain, they should be okay.”
It was a somewhat fortunate statement.
At least, it meant that they were out of the situation where Jinseok had to let go of his parents.
In the doctor’s reassuring voice and the small glimmer of hope, Jinseok sighed in relief.
“Ah… Is it difficult for them to regain consciousness?”
“That seems a bit challenging. The patient’s body is instinctively refusing to wake up.”
“Is the pain that severe?”
As Jinseok contemplated how much pain would lead someone to refuse waking up, his expression hardened once again.
“Don’t worry too much. We’ll do our best.”
“Yes, thank you.”
“More importantly, what happened today? No matter what prescription we gave, we never expected these results…”
In response to the doctor’s question, he answered as if nothing had happened.
“Ah, maybe it’s just luck.”
Jinseok decided to keep quiet about Seonghyun’s doings today.
Although Seonghyun hadn’t explicitly asked him to keep it a secret, the unspoken understanding made it clear what the better choice was.
The doctors soon left, and Jinseok sat beside his sleeping parents.
“Really… for the treatment…”
Seonghyun had not only spent time for someone he had never seen before but also experienced their pain, and in the case of two people.
Even though Jinseok couldn’t know precisely the extent of his parents’ suffering, if it was pain intense enough to make them refuse to wake up instinctively, the magnitude of that suffering could be easily imagined.
“I should contact him first.”
Jinseok immediately dialed Seonghyun’s number.
“Hello?”
“Hi, it’s Jinseok.”
“Oh, yes. What’s up?”
“After you treated my parents and left, they regained consciousness for a short while.”
“Really? That’s great.”
“And there has been some improvement.”
Jinseok explained to Seonghyun what the doctor had just told him.
“Congratulations.”
“Thank you…”
Jinseok found it challenging to continue with the next part of the conversation. How could he ask Seonghyun to endure that pain again, especially until a full recovery?
“Well then, I’ll visit again later.”
“Visit again? You’re coming back?”
“The sooner we treat it, the better, right?”
Jinseok couldn’t find words to respond to Seonghyun’s casual tone.
‘What is with this person…’
“Hello?”
“Oh, yes. Uh, understood.”
Indescribable emotions kept flooding in.
