I Became the Only Healer in the Academy - Chapter 30.2
Changing people’s perceptions seemed like an incredibly difficult task from his previous life.
Despite pouring in tremendous effort, his abilities remained stagnant, and even his homeroom teacher ignored and discriminated against him.
Initially, Seonghyun hadn’t paid much attention to these looks.
If he were to say so, it would be a lie.
How many people truly ignore the looks of those around them?
Although he hadn’t made a deliberate effort to change, the perception towards Seonghyun had already shifted significantly after his performance in the tournament.
“Hey! Isn’t he our class hero? Seonghyun. You were awesome yesterday.”
“Right. We might not fully understand how challenging it is to feel pain on behalf of someone else, but I can imagine it’s not easy to use such abilities without hesitation.”
Even passing classmates showed their approval by patting Seonghyun on the shoulder.
It made sense since the class that had been selected as the 1st-year representatives received a lot of support in many aspects. It was a good thing for everyone.
“Hey, Seonghyun.”
“Oh, hello.”
Even Hayeon, who usually didn’t initiate conversations, smiled and offered her congratulations to Seonghyun.
“Congratulations. Now, if you win as the representative, you’ll go to the national tournament…”
“Ahaha, I’m not expecting that. I think it’s natural for the third-year students to go… Besides, there are so many amazing people in our second year this time.”
Seonghyun responded with a somewhat awkward expression, but Hayeon was already aware.
The difference between the Seonghyun from before and now was quite noticeable, to the point that it might be embarrassing to compare.
“Who is this!”
As they entered the classroom with Hayeon, their homeroom teacher, already aware of Seonghyun’s arrival, greeted him enthusiastically from the entrance.
“Haha! Yesterday was truly miraculous! I thought a miracle had descended!”
“Ah, yes…”
Though his discomfort was evident, the homeroom teacher showed no sign of stepping back.
“By any chance, is there anything you need? Just let me know! Since our class is the grade representative, we’ll provide full support corresponding to that!”
Without responding to the homeroom teacher, Seonghyun entered the classroom.
As he walked past, the teacher’s expression distorted, but he couldn’t express in words everything Seonghyun, Inhwan, and Sang-yeon had gained and would gain through this.
“Oh, you’re here?”
“Yeah, the reaction seems a bit different from yesterday.”
“I mean, you did well.”
Unable to stand Sang-yeon’s words, Seonghyun and Inhwan looked at Sang-yeon, but he just cleared his throat and turned away.
“So are you giving up on the tournament? You both know, but the second and third years are on a different level than us.”
Sang-yeon and Inhwan already seemed halfway resigned.
In truth, Seonghyun felt the same way.
After all, the original goal wasn’t the national tournament but the production of academy equipment.
However, he didn’t plan on doing things like spending the whole day exterminating monsters at the gate, as he did when preparing for the grade representative this time.
“Let’s not take the next tournament too seriously. Pouring in more time and effort might not be good. We have opportunities for the next two years.”
Sangyeon and Inhwan were a bit surprised by Seonghyun’s unexpected words, but they found this side of him much more comfortable.
After all, there was about a month left until the next tournament. He had no intention of just standing at the gate until then.
“Seonghyun, the homeroom teacher, said to visit the equipment workshop after lunch. Sang-yeon you too.”
“I wonder what kind of equipment they’re going to give us.”
“Still, they generally make it based on your requests, so think about it quickly.”
Inhwan already seemed to have decided what order to place, with a happy expression on his face.
After finishing lunch, Seonghyun and the others headed to the Academy equipment workshop.
Upon arrival, both the 2nd and 3rd-year representatives were already there.
From the moment they entered, the eyes of both grades were fixed on Seonghyun.
“Wow. The stares are quite blatant.”
“Of course. They probably saw that it’s not just a simple healing ability.”
Inhwan and Sang-yeon stood there, glaring at them in the same manner.
As a strange atmosphere began to flow, a voice came from beyond.
“Hey! Is that the 1st-year representative over there?”
“Oh, yes. I’m the 1st-year representative.”
“Don’t make a fuss already. Don’t bother us; come over here.”
Following the amusing voice, they passed by the representatives of the other grades and entered, where they saw a man engrossed in making equipment.
“Haha! So, this is the famous healer. The others are friends with advanced abilities for first-years.”
The man, who had set down the hammer he was holding, motioned for them to sit at the table.
“Tell me what you want. I can’t do everything, but I need to know what you want to tailor the equipment accordingly.”
He handed them paper and pens, and they immediately began jotting down the abilities they desired.
Since they had already thought about the abilities they wanted, it didn’t take long for the three to finish.
“Hmm…”
The man began to carefully review the contents.
“Ho-oh? This is quite unexpected. But it’s fascinating. How did you all end up with such modest desires?”
“Yes, yes? Does that mean we can get abilities even stronger than these?”
There was a sense of anticipation in Inhwan’s voice.
“Of course! Do you know why the top hunters of each country are so powerful? It’s not just because of their own abilities, but the equipment they use is extraordinary. I might not be at their level, but I can still create equipment that will serve you for a lifetime.”
The man, having understood what each of them wanted, merged the papers, lit a cigarette, and spoke.
“You can go now. The equipment creation will proceed in order of the grades, so it might take around two weeks.”
“Yes, thank you.”
After thanking him, they stepped outside. The grade representatives, who hadn’t left their seats yet, were still watching them.
In the area where the 2nd-year representatives were, there was a familiar face.
‘Wasn’t he a friend of that guy, Kim Jinseok?’
That friend, too, was looking at Seonghyeon with a complex expression.
“Let’s go back.”
Feeling the strange gaze, Seonghyun turned his head and headed back to the classroom.
