I Became the Only Healer in the Academy - Chapter 31.1
“Applause for our class heroes!”
Upon arriving at the class, along with the homeroom teacher’s words, applause from classmates began to resonate.
Some clapped genuinely, while others remained expressionless.
Perhaps it was something assigned by the homeroom teacher.
“So, the Representative Battle… Can we expect a bit of excitement?”
The homeroom teacher recalled when they were chosen as the academy representative.
Just last year, the class that produced the academy representative received support incomparable to what is received now.
Within the class and even towards the homeroom teacher.
‘If the abilities shown yesterday are any indication, we can expect something noteworthy! In that case, the salary deduction might just be a matter to overlook.’
Seonghyun, clearly observing the teacher’s transparent thoughts, looked at him with a disdainful gaze before returning to his seat.
Certainly, any hostility or similar glances directed at Seonghyun within the class had completely disappeared.
It was safe to say that even the leader among them, Koo Sang-yeon, had become a friend of Seonghyun.
Koo Sang-yeon, the leader, met Seonghyun’s gaze for a moment and said with a smirk.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
Seonghyun responded with a light chuckle.
“It seems like I don’t have to worry about anything in the academy anymore.”
At least not within the same class.
After concluding today’s lessons, Seonghyun, now habitually, headed towards the gate for the daily quest he had to clear.
“Didn’t I tell you to properly investigate?”
“T-That’s all there was…! I just saw what I saw!”
As he was about to leave the academy to go towards the gate, he heard a voice coming from the place where he had first conversed with Sang-yeon.
“Why? What’s going on?”
Inhwan and Sang-yeon, not having heard the voice, looked at Seonghyun, who stood still in confusion. Seonghyun, tilting his head slightly, replied.
“Nothing, you guys can go ahead.”
“All right, see you tomorrow.”
Seonghyun, sending Inhwan and Sang-yeon off first, headed towards the origin of the voice.
Positioning himself in a spot not easily visible from the inside, Seonghyun focused on the voice coming from the alley.
“Can’t you at least make a sincere excuse? You lied to get back at me, didn’t you, even though your ability could clearly see it all.”
“I-It’s really true! I told you everything I could see with my ability…!”
Somehow, a familiar voice reached his ears.
‘Whose voice is this?’
Upon reflecting a bit, it was the person he had encountered just yesterday.
It was Hwang Eui-hyun, who had triumphed against the frenzied Sang-yeon.
“I clearly know your ability, and I told you everything, didn’t I? Why the hell are you lying?”
“N-No, that’s not…!”
Following was not a voice but the sound of something striking.
Once, twice.
After the continuous sound ceased, a different, agonizing groan mixed with a voice was heard.
“I-It’s true…”
“Hmm… you know, if you can’t tell me what it is, you could have at least escaped from me. Don’t you think?”
“P-Please…”
‘Is this because of yesterday’s battle?’
I may not know the exact details, but considering what could have angered Hwang Eui-hyun recently, aside from the battle yesterday, there seemed to be nothing else.
“You seem to be seriously mistaken about something, but now you don’t have a chance.”
“H-However, I did exactly as I was told! I even went to the Assassination Guild for the first time in my life! You know that too!”
‘Assassination Guild? Wasn’t that what Heo Taehyun had commissioned? He definitely mentioned that the hunter was hired by Heo Taehyun.’
The situation seemed to be taking a strange turn.
Whether there was another presence behind them or if they were involved from the beginning was unclear.
“D-Did you go and make the commission? You just asked a few questions. Even collected samples.”
“B-But…!”
“Enough! If you’re going to spout nonsense, shut up. I might just kill you right here if I feel like it.”
‘Sample collecting…’
Unfamiliar words kept popping up, and Seonghyun focused more on their conversation.
“Hmm… fine, I get it. If your ability has its limits, what more can I do?”
“T-That’s right?”
“Well, then, I guess your usefulness ends there.”
“E-Eui-hyun…?”
Hwang Eui-hyun seemed to have finished saying everything and began to exit the alley.
Seonghyun concealed himself and waited for Hwang Eui-hyun to pass by.
“What did I… What did I do wrong?”
Inside the alley, a voice filled with despair echoed.
It was the voice of someone who had already given up on many things, and yet, it also held the tone of someone who would have to give up even more in the future.
“Haha…”
Laughter, not genuine laughter, echoed, and as Seonghyun peeked his head slightly to observe, inside the alley, all that could be seen was a figure already collapsed and sitting on the ground, emitting a disappointed laughter.
“Was the academy always like this?”
It was undoubtedly an academy meant for adults, yet there were individuals who seemed anything but adult.
“…I guess I don’t need to intervene.”
Interfering haphazardly might only lead to undesirable outcomes.
At the same time, he couldn’t help with everything.
Unless there was a commitment to take responsibility until graduation, or even beyond that.
Seonghyun, briefly considering whether he should at least heal the wounds, decided against revealing his current state, thinking it might make the situation even more miserable for the other person.
“I thought it would be over once I entered the academy…”
Sitting in the alley, Sung-wook looked up at the sky and let out a bitter laugh.
