I Became the Younger Sister of the Game's Villain - Chapter 10.3
It was my fault for thinking he was able to follow me.
Kang Min Hyung was floundering in the quicksand, unable to even scream.
Scraping at the ungraspable sand seemed to zoom closer, more vividly.
The look in his eyes was starting to become empty.
“Save me, save me, please save me…”
I started to feel sick.
“Stay still! Try not to move as much as possible!”
I needed to get him to stop moving first and bit my lip hard enough to draw blood.
His arm was just within a precarious reach.
With half his torso already buried, trying to pull him out with force might cause me to topple in due to the weight difference.
Using tools to brace was the same; near the quicksand, the ground was unstable and could drag both of us in.
Waiting for a rescue team that might never come was not an option.
In the end…
‘To pull Kang Min Hyung out, I’ll have to use recoil.’
It was a method where one survives and the other perishes.
My heart painfully thudded.
An overwhelming pressure began to suffocate me, making breathing difficult.
This isn’t real.
This is just the game I was playing.
Yet, fear, guilt, and helplessness paralyzed my body.
I, I…
“I’m sorry.”
I patted Lee Moa’s body gently.
“Snap out of it and grab my hand!”
“Ah…”
“Quickly!”
No matter how much I tried to believe it was all fake, every sensation that touched my skin felt real.
Everything existing was not just a fantasy I created to deny the world.
It wasn’t like that.
Kang Min Hyung was alive in front of my eyes, frightened, laughing, and more than anyone…
‘He wanted to live.’
How could I just abandon him?
The tips of my fingers extended to him in desperation.
Kang Min Hyung, after hearing my shout, seemed to snap back to reality and struggled with his sinking body.
The more he moved, the faster he sank.
There was only one chance.
“Now!!”
I pulled Kang Min Hyung with all my might.
Led by the recoil, my body rolled forward.
I felt myself slipping into the center of the quicksand.
I tried braking with my feet and hands to not sink deeper, but it was futile.
‘I’m going.’
As it was what I expected, my mind was calm.
The sand covering up to my midriff felt warm.
I locked eyes with Kang Min Hyung, who had fallen into the safe zone.
“Moa…!! Wait, wait. I’ll somehow…”
“Quickly run away. Don’t just stand there and get caught by a beast and die.”
“What are you saying! I won’t leave. No, I can’t. Let me at least tear this…”
His hands, visibly shaking, tried to rip his shirt.
Struggling and eventually kneeling, he flailed before ripping off his short-sleeved shirt to try and combine it with his other shirt.
He whirled the rope like a cowboy and threw it, but obviously, it was far too short.
An inappropriate laugh slipped out.
It was a composure that only those who gave up everything could have.
‘If we both die after all this, that would be the ultimate lousy end.’
The sand pressed down on me, making my body ache.
Breathing became increasingly difficult.
The heat and an instinctive fear blurred my vision.
To make matters worse, I started seeing the sand bubbling up behind Kang Min Hyung.
‘Just go, you indecisive punk!’
With the sand rising just below my nose, I couldn’t even speak.
Was this truly the end?
Could I actually witness what ‘the ending’ looked like?
Nothing but despairing thoughts filled my mind.
As I gasped for air, caught in the fear of not knowing what would come next…
Boom―!!
A sound like a water balloon bursting somewhere echoed.
But to me, it sounded like fireworks.
With the last of my strength, I forced my head up and saw the sand soldiers, whom no amount of slicing seemed to finish off, collapsing.
ight in the middle of them.
A hole, a deep brown hue, seemed almost lovely.
“Why are you just coming now, you bastards!”
My voice cracked as I shouted in a surge of emotion.
Like a claw machine prize, I was plucked from the grasp of the quicksand.
It was the moment Kang Min Hyung’s rescue team finally arrived.
