I Give Up on the BL Novel's Male Leads - Chapter 106
“Today’s assignment is to summarize what you’ve studied for an hour individually, as we have the midterm exams the week after next.”
Illein appreciated the magic mechanics professor for moving quickly through the material and giving students individual study time. It was helpful to have at least one subject like this to keep pace with the syllabus before exams.
Illein excelled in both magical mechanics and magical physics, so she felt quite at ease studying magical mechanics for the hour.
As she rapidly filled a blank sheet with notes, Damon watched her with a smile.
Even Damon, who enjoyed playing pranks, never dared to disturb Illein when she was studying. In fact, he didn’t even think of trying.
Illein had always had exceptional concentration since she was young. When she focused, she was almost impervious to the noise and chaos around her.
It was a kind of isolation, a way of separating herself from the world.
Damon found it fascinating how Illein could be so intensely focused. He couldn’t understand how someone could be so single-minded.
Of course, with such focus, it was no wonder Illein maintained her top rank in the school.
In any case, her concentration was impressive enough to leave Damon in awe.
Illein, however, was completely unaware of how Damon was watching her.
She was going through her magical mechanics notes for the midterm. At least five readings were necessary to achieve a perfect score before the exam.
The two weeks before the midterm were the most intense for Illein. She had to review her notes, commit most of the material to memory, and identify her weak points, which was extremely demanding.
Typically, during this period, Illein’s concentration was at its peak.
– Drip…!
Seeing the ink from her fountain pen drip, Illein sighed.
“Ugh.”
She shook her head, unable to clear the distracting thoughts from her mind.
Rodein was in critical condition but it was unrelated to her. She wondered why she couldn’t easily push these thoughts away.
Illein was troubled by the thought that Rodein knew her true identity. She feared that, in his dazed state, he might talk about her.
Determined to regain her focus, Illein attempted to return to her studies. But just then…
Shuffle shuffle.
The corridor was suddenly filled with the sound of many footsteps and murmurs of people.
At this time, all the classrooms at the academy were supposed to be in session.
How could so many people be walking around the corridor so noisily? This was something that normally wouldn’t happen. Illein looked up, filled with curiosity, toward the source of the noise.
When she lifted her gaze, she saw that everyone in Class 1 was looking at the magical mechanics professor. It was clear to Illein that everyone was bewildered by this unexpected situation.
While the students might not have known what was happening, there was hope in their eyes that perhaps the professor might.
However, the professor of magical mechanics was just as clueless about the situation. Even he was shifting his gaze toward the increasing noise, looking confused.
Knock knock knock!
Suddenly, someone began knocking on the door to Class 1.
“Yes.”
When the professor responded, the door swung open.
“We apologize for the interruption. We received a report and have come from the police department.”
Standing there were numerous police officers.
“And while you were comfortably attending your class, my dear brother, did you make me end up like this?”
Rodein, in a disheveled state with a fierce glare, entered the room.
“Arrest him immediately! Charge him with attempted murder of the prince.”
Rodein then ordered the police officers.
The officers swiftly surrounded Edwin, moving in with caution. They held their wands threateningly toward Edwin, ready to act at the slightest resistance.
The entire scene unfolded so rapidly that no one had a chance to fully grasp what was happening.
Illein was extremely flustered by the sudden turn of events. Although it wasn’t a direct threat to her, it was hard not to be concerned.
Illein knew very well that Edwin was not the culprit. She had been with him throughout the night and into the early morning.
Moreover, how the police officers approached menacingly was a situation Illein couldn’t simply ignore.
The reason was that she was right in the middle of their path.
With Edwin behind her and the officers closing in from all sides, Illein felt an involuntary sense of tension. It was a reflexive response.
Even the calmest person would find it impossible not to be anxious in such a situation.
In any case, Illein strongly felt that this was not right. Despite the fact that the matter concerned Rodein, the most favored son of the Emperor and Empress, she was disturbed by the way Edwin was being hounded and threatened without justification.
