I Give Up on the BL Novel's Male Leads - Chapter 111
Rodein’s confidence as he faced the truth serum had a noticeable effect.
The irritation that many had felt towards him after Damon’s earlier comments had somewhat subsided. Instead, curiosity now replaced their previous frustration.
Everyone’s attention turned to Rodein, eager to see how things would unfold.
Rodein, fully aware of the eyes on him, accepted the truth serum without hesitation. Soon after, a police officer opened the questioning.
“Please state your name.”
“Rodein Ensest.”
“Your age and affiliation?”
“Twenty, the imperial family.”
“May we record your testimony about the events from last night?”
“Do what you have to.”
Rodein nodded with a dazed expression.
The officer gestured to his colleague, who began the recording. Watching this, Rodein’s mood quickly soured. The sluggishness of the proceedings, possibly made worse by the effects of the truth serum, was irritating him.
“What are you waiting for? Hurry up with the questions! I’m getting tired of waiting, you worthless peasants!”
Rodein’s words became harsh, as it was his true nature.
In fact, this was his typical behavior, though he usually hid it when there were many eyes on him. Now, with the truth serum loosening his restraint, the mask had slipped.
“Please tell us exactly what happened at 3 a.m. last night.”
“I was having a great time at 3 a.m. I thought Illein would come to see me.”
“Excuse me?”
“I played a fun little trick on Illein yesterday. I thought Illein would come running to me for help.”
The officer blinked in surprise, caught off guard by the unexpected answer. He let out a quiet sigh that was barely noticeable, and continued his questioning.
“Your Highness, how would someone unauthorized enter the palace?”
“Ha! You think I didn’t prepare for that? I told the palace guards to send Illein Thierry straight to me. But none showed up. That’s when I started getting really upset.”
Rodein responded to the officer’s question with a heavily sarcastic tone.
“That…”
Just as the officer was about to answer, Rodein raised his hand to silence him.
“So, I drank a little in my room. I was trying to keep calm, but the anger kept rising! Then, while I was drinking, my dear brother suddenly showed up at my room.”
As the conversation continued, Illein furrowed her brows deeply.
Something didn’t sit right with her—there was a mention of an event she couldn’t remember.
What exactly had Rodein done to her? And why did he assume Illein would come to him?
It was frustrating, trying to recall something that seemed clouded and erased from her memory.
As Illein struggled with these missing pieces, the questioning proceeded.
“Uh… Could it be that, perhaps, you misremembered something because of the alcohol?”
The officer’s question was natural enough since Rodein had just admitted to drinking.
But Rodein glared at the officer, his voice rising in anger.
“Hah! You lowborn fool! Are you saying I imagined it all because I was drunk?”
Rodein’s eyes widened as he scanned the room, shaking his head.
“No! Absolutely not! I remember it clearly. My brother stormed into my room, yelling at me—furious because I had supposedly touched something of his!”
Rodein’s gaze then settled on Illein.
No one in the room thought much of it. They assumed it was just a coincidence that he looked her way.
But Illein didn’t feel the same. She tried not to show it, but her insides were churning with anxiety.
Could Edwin really have done something like that? Her mind kept drifting to the dark conclusion she knew from the original story.
“Are you absolutely sure it was Prince Edwin? Couldn’t you be mistaken?”
Unable to contain her growing unease, Illein blurted out the question.
Chuckle. Rodein had his eyes fixed on her as if he pitied her naivety.
“Do you honestly believe that?”
“Edwin wouldn’t have had a reason to do such a thing.”
“That’s because you don’t know him. My brother is just a bloodthirsty monster. And he’s always been obsessive about anything he thinks belongs to him!”
“Why are you so sure? Isn’t that too harsh a statement?”
“What’s harsh about it? Anyone who’s been to battle with my brother knows it. He’s a monster. Just because he mimics human behavior doesn’t make him human. You’ve all heard the stories, right? About how he acts on the battlefield.”
Rodein spoke without restraint, saying everything he had wanted to.
“I think my brother was behind the arson and the murders too. With his overwhelming magic, he probably nullified the psychometry users and erased memories as he pleased. Like I said earlier, you can’t judge him by normal human standards. He’s a real monster. His elemental affinity? It’s practically useless given his strength.”
Rodein continued, taking this opportunity to say every word he wanted. After all, he could just blame the truth serum for whatever he said.
