I Give Up on the BL Novel's Male Leads - Chapter 27
“Why did it break so easily?”
Illein exclaimed in shock, and the trembling Edwin pushed her shoulder away.
Illein knew why Edwin was wearing a magic control device.
In the original story, he had come to Bellaine Academy under a false accusation. However, his magic was truly unstable, and he had worn the device for control.
The problem was that when the device broke, not only his magic but also his reason began to fluctuate wildly.
“Are, are you in your right mind right now?”
In the original story, Illein had broken it during a struggle after being kidnapped. And what happened after that? That’s how the R19 began.
Illein turned pale, thinking she needed to escape from this place.
She had no idea how the teleportation spell had been cast, but all teleportations within the capital were prohibited, which is why everyone traveled by carriage. Moreover, she needed to know where they were to even attempt a teleportation spell; otherwise, only parts of her body might teleport, leading to disastrous results.
“I’ll, I’ll try to fix the control device!”
Illein gasped, trying to help Edwin up from where he had curled on the floor.
“Ah!”
As she tried to lift him, she ended up falling over him.
She had accidentally sat on him, and began to sob again, her trembling hands feeling his chest where she had heard the device break.
The sound had come from his chest, and there should be a pocket inside his coat. Thinking this, she felt inside the coat’s inner pocket, but it was empty.
“Why not?”
Maybe because she was crying, but her heart was pounding uncontrollably again, her head throbbing with pain.
“Get away from here.”
Edwin’s voice was strained, and she felt genuinely scared by his condition.
“No…. please, pull yourself together!”
Despite her trembling voice, she tried to hold back as she opened his vest. There, in the pocket of his white shirt, it seemed like the remains of something broken were leaking out sparkling dust.
The moment she took out her magic wand to fix it.
–Whoosh!
His power erupted like flames, creating fire in the air without anything actually burning.
“Oh dear.”
Illein was initially alarmed, but seeing his magic escaping outward and starting a fire around them, she felt somewhat relieved. If his magic had stayed confined within him, his sanity might have been completely lost.
She swung her wand calmly and created water as naturally as breathing and quickly doused the floor with it. After about ten seconds, the water receded, and the fire-damaged areas returned to their original state.
Soaked, Illein checked on Edwin, who had fainted.
“Wake up.”
“…”
“Can you hear my voice?”
She placed her hand on his neck and infused him with the healing powers commonly used by water elementals. As the water helped, his pale, drained face from the escaping magic slowly regained color.
Relieved to feel his steady heartbeat, she sighed.
Then, she took his wand, which was tucked into his vest. She transferred the magical records from his wand to hers, uncertain if the attempt or the transfer might fail, but she decided to reverse-engineer the magic Edwin had used.
Despite her concerns about using the banned teleportation magic again, she couldn’t just stay put. Setting aside the fact that Melias was waiting, she needed to move to prevent any potential disasters.
Taking a deep breath, Illein began to cast the spell.
“Ah…!”
A portal began to open.
She quickly escaped through it, and after a series of complications, she found herself back at the door of the store where she had intended to buy a notebook.
“Ah, I’m so tired.”
She said this as she opened the door to the store, still wet.
Having stabilized Edwin’s condition and fully healed him before she left, she was confident he would be fine.
Illein thought to herself as she went to the familiar section of the store and swung her wand. Her current soaked condition made it impossible to hold the notebook by hand.
“Charge it to the Thierry barony.”
“Yes, thank you.”
Illein then levitated the notebook and walked back to the carriage. As she was neither a wind nor a fire elementalist, she couldn’t dry herself off.
– Knock, knock.
Illein reached the carriage but didn’t enter right away; instead, she knocked on the door.
“Melias.”
She half-expected him to have already left, yet the carriage was still there. She had been delayed almost an hour due to the incident with Edwin.
– Click.
The door opened, and Melias, upon seeing her, widened his eyes in surprise.
“I had some trouble, which is why I ended up like this. Thank you for waiting, but I think I’ll have to go separately.”
Illein felt it would be too much to enter the carriage in her wet clothes and hair, so she said that.
“Why are you so wet? Did it rain?”
“There was a situation.”
