I Give Up on the BL Novel's Male Leads - Chapter 30
It was Sunday.
Even though it was Sunday, Illein’s parents usually spent their days at the Duke Candelaria’s residence.
“Mother, Father?”
“Ahem. Get her dressed quickly.”
“Will do.”
Baron Thierry directed his wife to take Illein away.
“Why are we going back to my room? I really need to study today.”
“You can always go to the library. Besides, once you’re engaged to Wigmore Marquisate, you can quit that academy.”
“I don’t want to do that. I’ve been there for three years…”
“Shh! Let’s go upstairs now.”
Illein felt suffocated as her mother forced her back upstairs. She had no intention of quitting the academy. She had endured it for three years.
With only one year left until graduation, she could avoid an arranged marriage. She was just twenty years old—too young to marry and have children.
She didn’t want to live her life according to her parents’ wishes.
–Thud.
As Illein returned to her room and her mother closed the door, she said,
“I will graduate from the academy.”
“Why bother? You wouldn’t need to once you’re the Marchioness.”
“I’m not giving up on my academy graduation. That part is…”
“Alright, then. In any case, they suggested starting with the engagement.”
“No, I don’t want the engagement either…”
“Put your bag down.”
Illein felt overwhelmed by her mother’s authoritative tone. Why did she have to be this way?
“I really need to go to the library today. I didn’t study yesterday either…”
“If you just cooperate well today, I’ll let you go quickly. So, be cooperative.”
Illein figured it was better to be cooperative than argue.
Whenever her parents returned to the mansion, they always had a purpose. Arguing and wasting time now would just take away from the evening hours she could use to study.
Resigned, Illein sighed.
She then took off her ring. It was clear the visit was because of the Marquis Wigmore.
No matter what she said, it seemed that convincing Melias to reject her would be the better option.
‘We raised and fed you, how can you say such things? Don’t you have any gratitude?’ she imagined they would retort if she tried to refuse.
“Why are you taking off the ring? You need to wear it today.”
“Why is that?”
“Because today, you’re going as Illein.”
Illein thought it might actually be for the best.
“Then I’ll take my bag. I’ll head to the library as soon as I’m done.”
“Will you cooperate?”
“Yes, I will.”
Baroness Thierry looked at her and sighed.
“Alright then. But maybe change into different clothes?”
“Yes.”
Illein had to wear the slightly uncomfortable but modest clothes her mother picked out.
Thus, Illein managed to head towards a location near the Bellaine Academy library.
The place where Illein and her family arrived at the Viscount Macintosh’s residence.
“Why are we here?”
“Shh.”
Illein felt suffocated as her parents seated themselves on either side of her in the drawing room.
Soon after they sat down, the mansion’s owner, along with Willai and his mother, entered the room pompously.
“No, don’t get up. Stay seated.”
“No, Viscount Macintosh.”
Even though Illein disliked Willai, she felt it necessary to maintain politeness and stood to greet them.
“I heard there was an unfortunate incident at the academy.”
Before even serving tea, Viscountess Macintosh spoke in a commanding tone.
“I heard your son stole a wallet.”
Illein opened her mouth to respond.
“That’s not accurate. It wasn’t me who stole, Willai made it up.”
“Where do you get off making such outrageous claims…!”
Illein flinched slightly as Viscountess Macintosh glared at her fiercely.
But she was not one to stay silent when wrongly accused.
“It was Willai who falsely accused me when I didn’t steal and even pushed for my withdrawal.”
“Ha! Why would our Willai do such a thing?”
“I don’t know either. Willai has harassed me unfairly many times, which is why a report was filed with the police.”
While Viscount Macintosh remained calm, the Viscountess was visibly furious.
“The real problem is that a student lacking as much as you got into Bellaine Academy in the first place. Apart from being lucky enough to be a water attribute, what else is outstanding about you?”
“That’s for the professors at Bellaine Academy to judge, not you, VIscountess.”
Illein knew if she didn’t speak up now, she might never get the chance, so she continued assertively.
She felt incredibly wronged and scared despite speaking so.
“And I don’t see how my abilities and qualifications have anything to do with this matter. If my abilities were lacking, the academy wouldn’t have admitted me in the first place. The incidents I’ve experienced were based on…Ah!”
-Splash!
Illein was startled as liquid suddenly splashed across her face.
