I Give Up on the BL Novel's Male Leads - Chapter 46
Illein thought there might be something particular Melias wanted from her, but seeing no special reaction, she just continued on her way.
However, it seemed odd as Melias suddenly started to follow her in the same direction. Illein was puzzled.
“Where are you going?”
She asked, but the reply was nothing out of the ordinary.
“I’m just going to wash my hands in the restroom.”
Though he said that, his behavior was suspicious, looking around nervously as if he had some secret plan.
– Whoosh, whoosh.
Illein wondered why he was checking his surroundings like that, as if he was up to something.
When they reached the restroom and realized no one else was there, Melias said,
“Would you consider being my partner at the dance party?”
“Damon and I planned to go together. It would be nice to have you join us.”
Illein had intended to do just that, as she had for the past three years. The dance party was a mandatory event anyway.
“What I mean is, I’d like you to come as Illenas, as my partner.”
“And my attendance?”
“I’m planning to have someone stand in for you.”
Illein knew that he was serious about their engagement. Considering her parents’ attitude, it was hard to avoid.
“I’d like to get to know you better by spending that time together.”
His words made sense to Illein.
Strategic marriages weren’t necessarily bad. Most nobility in the world married for strategy. Compared to some unfavorable strategic marriage partners she had heard of, Melias seemed like a decent person.
This had gradually changed her vague negativity towards arranged marriages.
And Melias has promised to do a lot for her.
“So, shall we?”
So, she responded that way. It didn’t seem polite to outright refuse without knowing him well.
“Yes.”
He smiled faintly, and Illein felt a bit shy because of his smile.
So, they washed their hands and returned to their respective classes.
“Do you really think you can partner with Illein Thierry?”
Phenon, one of Willai’s close group, was speaking to Alisha.
They were in Class 10, and they were using a wand to create a noise barrier so others couldn’t overhear their conversation.
“I can do it.”
“Forget it. Don’t do it.”
As Alisha claimed she could handle it, Willai dismissively told her not to bother.
“You think this only affects you? I got in trouble with my dad because of him.”
Alisha said annoyedly and glared at Willai.
“Who hasn’t? I got scolded by both my mom and dad.”
Willai raised his voice, clearly more irritated than Alisha.
“Forget it. We’ll stick to my plan. I’ll make sure to partner with Illein Thierry and then dump him miserably.”
Alisha said confidently. She was very proud of her looks.
So far, no man she showed interest in had ever rejected her.
Plus, she was a promising wind mage, and many prominent families had sought her family out for marriage proposals.
In that regard, Alisha was very confident.
“Do you think he’ll fall for you? Her sister is really pretty.”
Willai looked at Alisha as if she was foolish.
“She has a sister?”
“Yeah, I heard. You handle dumping her miserably. Just don’t drag me into it.”
Willai, looking disdainful, crossed his arms and leaned against the window.
“What harm could it possibly do to you? It’s Illein Thierry who will end up miserable.”
“Her sister is going to meet me.”
“What? Where?”
“Not that kind of meeting. We’re going to date.”
As Willai brazenly lied, Maxinon, who was also part of the group, spoke up.
“Why would the beautiful Lady Thierry meet with you?”
Maxinon thought Willai was quite handsome with his red hair and golden eyes—a striking combination.
But at the end of the day, Wlilai was just the son of a Viscount, and his abilities were only enough to keep him in Class 10.
Maxinon believed he was better looking than Willai and so he made his point.
“Because it’s me she’s meeting.”
Willai was annoyed by Maxinon’s comment but didn’t start an argument, considering Maxinon came from a Count’s family.
Although Maxinon wasn’t the eldest son, he still had the backing of his prestigious family, a status that Willai couldn’t ignore.
“I’ll bring her to the dance party.”
“Hey, if you bring her, let me hang out with her too.”
Phenon said this, causing Willai to frown.
“You’ll just cheat on her eventually, won’t you? If that’s the case, don’t bother. Just let me have a chance. I want to meet a beautiful girl too.”
Willai’s mood soured at Phenon’s words.
In the past, he had occasionally passed off commoner girls he was tired of to Phenon.
However, the thought of conquering the haughty Illenas was thrilling to him.
But the idea of giving Illenas to Phenon disgusted him.
