I Give Up on the BL Novel's Male Leads - Chapter 64
“Is there any benefit to looking taller? I just worry it might hurt your ankles.”
“Melias is quite tall. To match up when we’re together, it seems better if I appear a bit taller too…and it makes my legs look longer, which I like.”
“I see. I hadn’t thought of it that way, but that makes sense.”
The two of them matched each other well. And each time the chandelier’s light flickered over Illein’s silver hair, it sparkled as if the moon itself had descended into the ballroom.
Around them, fourth-year students who had come alone, either out of indifference to finding a partner, were watching her intently.
“See, what did I tell you?”
“Wow!”
“My goodness!”
“I told you it’s no joke!”
While Willai said this, he still felt intimidated seeing Melias, who was descending the stairs arm-in-arm, looking affectionate and proud.
‘Willai! You really don’t know Young Marquis Wignum!’
‘Ah! I don’t know him! Just know his face a bit!’
‘Then why won’t Marquisate Wignum postpone our family’s debt repayment? They usually extend it indefinitely without saying!’
‘I don’t know! Hasn’t Father done something wrong?’
‘Look at this attitude!’
Willai harbored significant resentment towards Melias because of how his parents reprimanded and scolded him.
Now he understood.
Melias Wignum must have influenced Marquis Wignum to torment his family. It was likely a scheme to look good to Illenas’ brother—who was actually one and the same.
At that moment, Willai felt like the male lead in a romance novel overcoming obstacles.
He left Lenin and Maxinon behind and approached Illein.
“Lady Illenas! It’s Willai!”
He then presented her with a bouquet of roses.
“Ah!”
Illein looked at Willai with an awkward expression.
Melias glanced at him with a frosty look and said,
“That’s not very polite.”
“I am being polite. Lady Illenas was supposed to come with me, but Master Wignum asked her first, so she ended up coming like this!”
Willai truly believed what he was saying.
“That’s nonsense. Are you trying to joke with me now?”
Melias was very displeased.
Willai had been harassing Illein. And immediately coming up to Illenas and presenting a large bouquet as if proposing were even more aggravating to him.
Seeing Willai’s flushed cheeks and watery eyes almost made it seem sincere.
“Master Macintosh, unfortunately, Melias spoke to me first.”
“But I was the first to fall for Lady Illenas at first sight!”
“…Ah.”
When Illein looked at Melias as if asking for help, Melias glared at Willai with an even colder expression than usual and said,
“Master Macintosh, are you suggesting we settle this matter here? Over my fiance?”
“Fiance? Why are you lying! I’ve checked all the administrative documents concerning Lady Illenas, and not only is there no engagement, but her records are incredibly clean!”
Willai’s chilling words made Illein look at him with even more disdain.
“Are you saying you’ve been investigating me?”
“One must know about the other before getting involved! I even planned to share my own documents with Lady Illenas!”
Of course, that was a lie. Willai’s personal life was far from clean. If he shared his administrative documents, a list of ladies he had been engaged to and broken off would come tumbling out.
Willai’s handsome appearance didn’t make him not have fiances.
However, these women, though immature, often fled after witnessing his irresponsible behavior and cheap talk.
“I’m not interested in that. And that’s a very unpleasant thing to do. How could you engage in such bizarre behavior…”
“It’s not strange. I just wanted to know more about Lady Illenas. Are you upset?”
“I’m not just upset, I’m angry. Why would you investigate someone’s background?”
“Oh, you’re upset. Don’t be upset. I’ll make it up to you.”
Willai said, his face reddening as he treated Illenas as though she was his lover.
Melias was swallowing his words, feeling an unfamiliar surge of emotion boiling up inside him.
He felt like he might lose his composure, so he chose to speak less, fearing he would say something undignified.
“Lady Illenas and I are engaged, and that will not change. It’s time you stopped this, Master Macintosh.”
“Be honest. You targeted my family just to make a good impression on Illenas, didn’t you?”
“…”
“No matter the reason, isn’t it petty to behave so lowly over one woman?”
“She is not just ‘one woman’; she is my fiance. You have insulted her brother, and the Wignum family will not stand idly by.”
Melias said, looking down at Willai.
Physically, Melias was much more imposing, causing Willai to shrink back again. Yet, he persisted.
“Still, petty is petty!”
