I Give Up on the BL Novel's Male Leads - Chapter 67
“Hey, Damon.”
“Yeah?”
“I think I need a bit more alcohol for the words to start flowing.”
“Okay.”
Damon then manipulated the wind, lifting a table from the first floor to the second floor with it.
“Wow, someone’s messing around on the second floor!”
“Who could it be?”
“It must be someone from either the first or second class given the skill level.”
The students on the first floor chuckled at this spectacle, and the band’s playing became more lively. The dance party included students from all four grades.
However, only those who were of age could drink alcohol. If underaged students touched the glasses, the glasses would turn to ash due to a protective enchantment.
Given that the table had ascended without turning to ash, everyone assumed it was the work of seniors, and no one dared venture upstairs after that.
It was likely someone from a high-ranking family, and nobody wanted to risk souring relationships that could affect their future by going upstairs needlessly. It was better to avoid making a bad impression when trying to look good was hard enough as it was.
That’s why the second floor remained a quiet spot just for the two of them.
Illein looked at the table full of drinks in front of her and grinned broadly, feeling inexplicably happier as the alcohol set in.
“Can you make sure I have something to sober up later?”
“Of course.”
Damon replied and sat down next to her. They were sharing a sofa, and perhaps due to its softness, Illein felt the alcohol affecting her more quickly.
She reached out her hand, and Damon magically floated a glass into her grasp.
Illein accepted the glass and started to gulp it down. She had already downed two glasses before the table arrived, and five more as Damon handed them to her.
After seven glasses, she felt relatively clear-headed but a bit dizzy. As she reached for an eighth, Damon looked at her worriedly.
Without her usual male guise and the ring she often wore, Illein seemed particularly vulnerable to alcohol. When she had the family ring, she was resistant even to truth serums, but now she feels vulnerable without it.
Despite this, Illein felt that only by drinking more could she be completely honest, so she continued drinking until she had downed ten glasses in total before she could finally take a breath.
“Is it really that hard to talk about?”
Damon chuckled, but then sat down in front of her.
Seeing her face flushed red as she looked straight at him, his body tensed involuntarily, and before he knew it, he had cupped her cheeks in his palms because her face looked too hot.
“Illein?”
“Uh, yeah. I’m listening.”
Damon then let go of her cheeks. He was even more flustered by the warmth he felt.
“If I drink one more glass, I think I can tell you anything.”
“Then have just one more.”
As Illein reached out, Damon sent another glass floating towards her. She tried to grasp it, but her hands were too weak.
“Oops…”
“You don’t have to drink anymore.”
As she missed and nearly dropped it, Damon quickly used his wind magic to whisk the glasses away before they could spill.
Illein looked quite dazed but seemed slightly relieved to see Damon smiling.
“I’m drunk.”
“Yes.”
“Then you can ask me anything.”
“Should have brought a truth serum instead.”
“That would have been easier.”
Illein chuckled again, and Damon gave a wry smile.
“Why are you engaged to Melias? You never told me about that.”
“Why are you curious about that, Damon?”
“It bothers me. I’m also hoping you’ll be open with me about whatever it is.”
Damon looked at Illein intently as he spoke.
He noticed her peachy cheeks and almost reached out to touch them again but restrained himself.
“Was the engagement your choice?”
“No.”
“So, you weren’t in a relationship with Melias?”
“Right.”
“Then why did you become engaged?”
Illein seemed to become emotional at his words. Maybe it was Damon’s gentle expression and tone.
“It’s just that…”
Memories of her parents forcing decisions on her surfaced, making her feel deeply sad.
“Damon, are we not going to be friends anymore because of this?”
“What! That’s nonsense! Why would you even say that?”
Damon was visibly flustered by her question.
“That’s not going to happen. So calm down and tell me the truth.”
Despite his reassurance, seeing Illein struggle to speak as her eyes welled up left him feeling helpless.
“Is it difficult for you to talk about this?”
At his question, Illein lowered her gaze.
“Let me ask again then. Did Melias pressure you into the engagement?”
