I Give Up on the BL Novel's Male Leads - Chapter 87
“I’ll probably head back once the arson case in the capital is resolved.”
Rodein said this with a casual smile.
In reality, it was rare to see the leaders of two major factions gathered in one place simultaneously. For the Belaine Academy, it was truly an unprecedented situation.
Even within Belaine Academy, factions existed.
There were families loyal to the Emperor, those loyal to the Empress, those loyal to Edwin, and even neutral families.
When Rodein first requested admission to Belaine Academy, there was significant concern. There was fear that his presence might cause turmoil within the academy.
Yet, despite these concerns, the academy had no choice but to place Rodein in the same class as Edwin. This decision was a result of adhering to established academic regulations.
Rodein, who had long surpassed the academic requirements for his age, could not simply be placed in a different class due to concerns about potential disturbances. Moreover, it was uncertain whether Rodein would accept being placed in a different class, even if the academy wanted it.
This was the official and surface-level reason for the leaders of the two enormous factions within the imperial court to converge at Belaine Academy, and even be in the same class.
“What do you mean, Rodein?”
Professor Sharian, although uncomfortable, asked this question. In the academy, it was customary to question students rather than disregard them.
“Professor, you’re aware of the major arson incident in the capital, right?”
“Yes.”
“The perpetrator’s appearance matches that of the person who struck Young Duke Candelaria, or rather, Damon, during the dance party. The one who hit Damon’s head.”
The surroundings instantly fell silent.
“When I pursued him, I found that he had taken refuge at the academy. I noticed him repeatedly coming and going from here.”
Rodein was staring directly at Edwin.
“I couldn’t tolerate such a dangerous criminal being a threat to my future subordinates, so I came here personally to catch him.”
Rodein’s intention was clear.
He wanted everyone to suspect Edwin and hoped that valuable information would come to him first.
By revealing his intentions within the academy like this, Rodein made it clear that useful information or hostile entities targeting Edwin would likely approach him during his stay.
It was a strategic move that made sense from a cost-benefit perspective.
He smiled brightly as he saw Illein, who was rigid and startled like a rabbit, sitting right in front of Edwin.
“Heh.”
Seeing her like that made him involuntarily chuckle.
The difference between her appearance as a woman and as a man didn’t seem significant to him.
Yet he found it curious how people recognized her as a man.
And as he observed the ring, a lost imperial treasure from three centuries ago, gleaming on her hand, he wondered if it was the ring’s influence.
The seemingly insignificant ring appeared quite beautiful on her hand, giving off a fascinating illusion.
“May I take my seat now?”
Rodein asked, looking at Professor Sharian.
Professor Sharian, recovering from his surprise, nodded in agreement.
“Everyone, please be kind to Rodein! Even if it’s just for a short time, as a student in our class, any discrimination or discomfort towards him will be met with disciplinary action from the academy.”
Professor Sharian said this and proceeded to guide Rodein to his seat.
Rodein casually walked over with his long legs and said to the student sitting next to Illein, smiling as he did so.
“Could you clear this seat for me?”
“Pardon? Oh, yes! Sure! Sit here!”
The student hurriedly moved their belongings to the spot indicated by Professor Sharian.
Rodein took the seat with a cheerful smile, and thus began a tumultuous period.
Illein felt suffocated.
She was uncomfortable with Rodein, who knew her true identity and had come to check Edwin and put pressure on him.
Her heart raced, and she felt as if her body was shrinking.
When she glanced anxiously over her shoulder, she saw Edwin looking at her.
Edwin frowned and turned away when their eyes met, and as soon as Illein turned back, she found Rodein staring at her.
“Shouldn’t we study the textbooks together?”
“Yes?”
“Is it okay if we move the desks closer?”
“Yes?”
“Great, thanks.”
As Elaine, flustered, hesitated to respond, Rodein moved his desk closer to hers and pulled up a chair to sit down. The distance made her feel even more suffocated.
“Illein, would you like to switch seats with me?”
Damon whispered as he turned around.
“Today’s meeting is nothing special. Since midterms are coming up, it would be beneficial for everyone to start studying.”
Professor Sharian glanced once more at Illein’s divided attention, discussing quietly with others, and said so.
“With that, we conclude today’s meeting.”
Professor Sharian gave Illein a supportive smile and left.
Perhaps due to their shared water affinity, Professor Sharian seemed quite favorable towards Illein.
As Professor Sharian was about to leave, everyone started to stand but quickly sat back down when he turned around again.
