I Give Up on the BL Novel's Male Leads - Chapter 97
“Illein?”
“There’s so much blood… Why are you injured so badly?”
It was clear that she was terrified. Her voice only confirmed her fear.
Her anxiety came from both the concern that Edwin might be seriously hurt and the unsettling realization that he might be the true culprit behind her concealed memories.
Moreover, she was deeply frightened by how her body was reacting to his presence.
Yet, her body seemed to act as though it recognized wh he was soaked in blood.
The fear she felt was subtly different. The former was a mix of worry and fear, while the latter was purely fear.
It was a paralyzing dread, akin to facing a predator in the dark.
“Are you worried?”
“Yes.”
“Ha ha.”
Edwin seemed pleased with her response, chuckling softly. He then removed his black uniform, revealing more black garments underneath.
He took out his wand and used it to absorb the droplets of blood from his body.
Illein stared at him, stunned.
“Does this make you less worried?”
“…Yes.”
As she continued to watch him in a daze, he looked at her with a sense of satisfaction.
Suddenly, she felt her body moving on its own again.
Her hand was gripping the wand she had been holding.
– Whoosh!
The wand released a burst of magical energy.
“Ugh…!”
Although Illein was not skilled in wind magic, she unleashed a blade-like gust towards Edwin, as if trying to cut his throat.
For mages, the type of magic one could use depended on their elemental affinity. Illein, with her water affinity, could perform basic magic of all elements—wind, fire, earth, etc. However, mastering higher-level spells in those elements required intense effort, and learning opposing elements was even more difficult.
So, it was remarkable that the wind she conjured was so sharp and fierce. It seemed as though it could slice through anything in its path.
Illein, who could only manage a gentle breeze at most, found it hard to believe she had conjured such a strong gust. To produce this kind of wind, she would normally need to draw a magic circle and concentrate intensely.
There was no way she could generate such a powerful wind as effortlessly as a wind mage might control the air.
“Ugh!”
At that moment, Illein realized she had regained control of her body.
It was as if achieving this was the original purpose, and once it was accomplished, the force binding her had vanished.
“Edwin!”
She cried out and rushed towards Edwin, noticing a large wound between his neck and shoulder.
“…Hah.”
Strangely, Edwin’s wound started to heal right before her eyes.
No matter how much she tried to use healing magic on him, it was futile. Her mana seemed trapped and was unable to flow out.
“That’s odd. You shouldn’t be able to use magic right now.”
“Ugh…”
Illein trembled with fear, clutching his neck. She was so shocked she was crying. Yet, Edwin didn’t seem particularly troubled by the situation.
He smiled at her when he saw her distressed face.
“Worried about me?”
“Blood, blood, blood. Edwin. Why can’t I… why isn’t my power working… what should I do…?”
She desperately tried to unleash her magic, but it wouldn’t come.
If this continued, Edwin would die. If the bleeding didn’t stop, he wouldn’t last much longer.
If this kept up, Edwin would truly die—Edwin, who had helped her and been on her side.
At that moment, Illein felt she might lose her mind. She even felt guilty for the fact that her own body had attacked him.
“Illein.”
Seeing Illein’s deeply agitated face, Edwin took her hands in his.
“Illein!”
As he lowered her hands, the wound on his neck was no longer visible.
“…Huh?”
Illein couldn’t understand how his neck had healed when she couldn’t even use her mana. But even so,
“Huh! Edwin!”
She thought he might die from the serious injury on his neck.
Illein threw herself into Edwin’s arms, her heart pounding uncontrollably from shock.
She truly feared he might die.
As she sobbed and sniffled, he held her close and gently patted her back.
“It’s alright. Hmm. Who would do something like this?”
He whispered to her.
“Edwin… I, I…”
But she couldn’t find the words.
“I’ll be back soon.”
Edwin said this, then approached her.
She soon saw Edwin’s wand glowing, and as he began to use magic, she was gently laid back down on the bed. Once Illein was comfortably settled on the bed, he kissed her cheek.
“Wait for me.”
With those words, he turned and left.
In a moment of clarity, Illein noticed that the device she had previously crushed against Edwin’s chest was now around his neck.
Illein lost consciousness, overwhelmed by the power of his magic.
