I Give Up on the BL Novel's Male Leads - Chapter 99
She couldn’t remember much of what had just happened.
The only thing she could vaguely recall was that Rodein had come and gone, and there was a troubling sense that she might have attacked someone.
Even that was hazy, as if someone had used memory magic to interfere with her recollections, making them unclear. Gradually, she began to calm down, seeing that Edwin had stepped back and was observing her.
“Edwin! Why are you so badly hurt?”
As soon as she came to her senses, she shouted without realizing it. The state of Edwin she saw was extremely serious.
“Illenas?”
“Oh my God…!”
Illein instinctively reached for his neck first, even though it wasn’t the area he was injured.
“Hey.”
“Ah!”
She quickly tried to channel her healing power into him, but strangely, no magic came forth.
She was so shocked that she wondered if something was wrong with her.
“Illenas.”
“Why…why can’t I…?”
She was deeply panicked as she was unable to use her powers.
Edwin then took her hand and pulled it away. Seeing the blood smeared on her hand, he sighed.
“Are you hurt anywhere?”
“Huh? I… of course not! You’re the one who’s injured!”
Illein spoke through her tears, unable to understand why she felt such guilt over his pain.
This was the unconscious reaction of Illein’s mind, which she couldn’t remember.
“To use magic, you shouldn’t be wearing this.”
He took the ring off her hand.
“What’s this…?”
“It’s a magic control device.”
“Why? Is it the same as the one Edwin uses?”
“No, this is… too weak for me to use.”
Illein was surprised by Edwin’s words.
“So… is it that I’m too weak to use magic?”
“It’s not that. A magic control device usually requires gradual adaptation. If someone has never used one before, they won’t be able to use their magic with it.”
“Oh! Is it similar to developing resistance?”
“Yes.”
As Illein gradually calmed down, Edwin’s expression relaxed too.
However, when he saw the tears clinging to her eyelashes, he remained tense.
She sniffled and placed her hand on his neck, channeling her healing power into him.
His expression softened as he felt her magic flowing through him, providing a pleasant sensation.
Illein, seeing him improving, felt a sense of relief.
“Why are you so hurt? I’m really worried right now.”
She said this, unsure of her own emotions, even though she didn’t fully understand why she was crying.
One thing she was sure of was that, despite knowing he was seriously injured and that he was getting better, she continued to use her powers.
Eventually, he took her hand and shared his own magic with her.
“Edwin….”
“Remember the warning I gave you before.”
“What do you mean?”
“Don’t trust me. Be wary of anything you see. Even if it looks like me, don’t let your guard down. If I get hurt, you should be glad.”
Illein frowned at Edwin’s words. She thought he was talking nonsense due to his blood loss and hit his shoulder with her fist.
“Are you going to keep saying that? Don’t you see that I’m worried about you right now?”
“No, I didn’t mean to upset you.”
He looked flustered as she got angry and took her hand again.
Illein, seemingly angry at his words, pulled her hand away.
“Not meaning to? I’m worried about you being injured, and you’re telling me not to approach you?”
“Illenas…”
“If that’s the case, then why did you come here injured? You’re making me worry. And you said we needed to see each other every day for 20 minutes. Today… It’s been over a day.”
“Illenas, that’s…”
“Do I look like someone with excess time every day? Is that why you come and go whenever you please?”
Illein was mixed with an unknown fear and confusion, yet felt a strange sense of disappointment at his order to stay away.
She didn’t fully understand this complex mix of emotions, but she let it all out.
Most of what she was feeling was sorrow.
“I’m feeling hurt right now.”
“…Illenas.”
“I wait and worry about Edwin, but Edwin always sets boundaries like this. Do you really hate me that much?”
“What are you talking about? That’s not it at all!”
Illein looked away as Edwin took both of her hands and gazed at her.
“Did you come here to see me?”
Seeing Edwin’s flustered expression and his lips moving as if struggling to find the right words, Illein’s emotions began to settle.
“Illenas, I’ve been worried about you. And yes, I came to see you. You have my control device with you.”
“…Oh.”
Illein felt a strange sense of relief from his words.
She nodded and tried to share a bit of her magic with him.
