I Got a Job as the Demon King's Plaything - Chapter 13
As Bonita approached the office door, her heart raced with nervous anticipation. She braced herself, knowing the guards would likely harass her again, just as they had before.
However, just as she neared the office, the door opened. Stepping out was the silver-haired demon she had seen the previous day.
“Ah, you’ve arrived. I was just leaving.”
Rento said, holding the door open for her with a polite smile. There was no chance for the guards to intervene. They stood stiffly at attention, fully performing their duties as guards without so much as a glance in her direction.
“I’ve brought tea…”
Teshiel was seated at his desk, absorbed in whatever he was reading. He didn’t even look up at her when she spoke, clearly preoccupied with his work.
Bonita carefully approached his desk and set down the teacup before pouring the tea. Steam rose gently from the cup as she filled it. Without taking his eyes off the papers in front of him, Teshiel reached for the teacup and quietly sipped the tea while continuing to turn the pages.
Relief flooded Bonita as she successfully completed her task without incident. She quietly stepped back from his side, feeling a rare moment of peace.
The soft sounds of Teshiel flipping through papers and drinking his tea filled the room. With nothing to do but wait, Bonita took the opportunity to look around the office. Yesterday, she had been blindfolded almost immediately after entering, so this was her first chance to properly observe the space.
Near Teshiel’s desk was a large window that reached up to Bonita’s thigh. Quietly, she moved toward the window, where the warm sunlight streamed in. The office was on the second floor, but with the building’s high ceilings, it felt more like the third. Below, a garden sprawled out, full of activity. There were visitors hoping for an audience with the Demon King, servants carrying goods, and gardeners tending to the plants.
A tree had grown tall next to the window, and a gardener was perched on a ladder, trimming the branches. As Bonita looked out, she made eye contact with the gardener. He seemed momentarily surprised by her appearance, which, due to the leather outfit, gave the illusion that she was wearing nothing. But after a brief pause, he smiled kindly and nodded in greeting. Bonita, feeling a bit shy, returned the smile. It felt like the first time she had smiled since entering the Demon King’s castle.
The peaceful moment was interrupted by Teshiel’s voice.
“Can you read?”
Startled, Bonita turned quickly to face him. He was setting down his empty teacup.
“I asked if you can read.”
“Y-Yes… I can read the common language of the continent.”
“Then come here and read this for me.”
“…Pardon?”
“I don’t feel like reading. You can read it aloud for me.”
Teshiel gestured lazily toward a stack of letters on his desk with his letter opener. It seemed he had been reading correspondence.
“B-But what if it’s something confidential…?”
Bonita timidly voiced her concern, but Teshiel’s response was a mocking laugh.
“What, are you planning to go out and gossip about the letters?”
“N-No, of course not.”
“Then come here.”
He patted his thigh, motioning for her to sit. Bonita’s eyes widened. Surely, he didn’t mean…
“Sit here.”
Just moments ago, the atmosphere had been so peaceful. Now, feeling like an animal being led to slaughter, Bonita approached him. As she got close, Teshiel pulled her swiftly onto his lap, positioning her sideways across his legs. Then, with his letter opener, he sliced open an envelope and handed her the letter.
“’To His Highness, Teshiel Pratemos. I trust this letter finds you well. From Count Luter Hybis…’”
Bonita began to read, but before she could finish the first sentence, Teshiel’s hand slid up her thigh. Her cheeks flushed hot.
“Keep going.”
“…Yes. A-as I have recently learned from a s-source… you have a-acquired the Mithril mine…”
Teshiel’s hand trailed further, moving up her side toward her chest. The leather outfit barely covered her n*****s, leaving the sides of her b*****s exposed to his touch. One hand toyed with her chest while the other slipped beneath her leather skirt.
“Don’t stutter. Read properly.”
