I Just Wanted to Avoid Death - Chapter 1
Cold eyes gazed upon him. The hostility behind that chilling stare was so intense that it made his whole body tremble.
However, despite the glaring eyes on him, Yeshion’s face remained calm.
‘The seventeenth time.’
Yeshion counted in his head.
“Is it true that you dishonored the saintess?”
A voice filled with rage struck his ears. He had heard this exact line for the seventeenth time.
As Yeshion considered his answer, he let out a long sigh.
No matter what answer he gave, the actions that would come next would be the same. Was there even a need to think about it?
“Answer the question, Priest Yeshion. I asked if you dared to dishonor the saintess.”
The man in front of him asked again. It looked like the man would grab his neck and kill him at any given moment.
Yeshion quietly looked up at the man.
The man was one hand span taller than him. His golden eyes shone beautifully like the blazing sun. It was a beauty that naturally elicited admiration, but such things no longer caught his eye anymore.
“Does my answer even matter? No matter what I say, whether I answer this or that, you’ll find some excuse to kill me.”
The moment Yeshion finished speaking, a sharp sword touched his neck.
The man, Eldis, had aimed his sword at him.
The first time it happened, he trembled with fear. But now, how had it come to the point that even with a sword pointed at his throat, he was no longer afraid? Was it because he had already experienced this instance seventeen times?
‘At least dying will hurt less this time. Being strangled was pretty painful.’
As Yeshion swallowed his bitterness, Eldis opened his mouth.
“I can no longer turn a blind eye to your wickedness.”
“……”
“Pay for the crime of dishonoring the noble saintess with your miserable life. If you are granted another life, may you sin no more.”
This was also the seventeenth time he had said this, no word out of place.
‘Anyway….what a shameless thing to say.’
As Yeshion cursed under his breath, the sword flew towards him and struck him without hesitation. His chest felt as if it were on fire, the saliva and blood that he couldn’t swallow gushing out of his gaping mouth.
The pain that felt like his entire body was being torn apart lasted only for a brief moment. His body soon lost strength, followed by a tingling sensation until his vision went black.
The darkness stretched on for a long time.
He couldn’t hear or feel anything. Just as Yeshion felt that he had gotten used to the silence, his vision suddenly brightened.
At the same time, he heard someone whimpering.
After he blinked a few times, he saw a woman in front of him, shedding tears.
“Hiic, hiic…… You, too much… You’re too much, Yeshion!”
“……Ah.”
It’s this scene again.
The moment Yeshion let out a short exclamation, the woman immediately left her set and ran off.
It was the saintess. The one he had dishonored.
“The eighteenth time.”
The scene repeated again.
Yeshion looked up at the sky with a despondent expression. The clouds drifting in the sky were not any different from the last seventeen times.
‘That hippo-shaped cloud is still there.’
Seeing the soft clouds, Yeshion shook his head.
Since the saintess had run out crying, in ten minutes, the angry archpriest would come running. And, depending on Yeshion’s answer, he would either be strangled or struck with a sword. But no matter what he does, he would end up dead.
Thinking about dying again left a bitter taste in his mouth.
“I don’t know what you’re asking me to do.”
Yeshion trudged along and flopped down carelessly in the temple garden.
The only free time Yeshion had was the ten minutes before Archpriest Eldis arrived. After those ten minutes, Eldis would come, and Yeshion would die.
“This is the eighteenth time… Do I really have to go through a hundred times to get out of this?”
Yeshion muttered with a grim face.
