I Just Wanted to Avoid Death - Chapter 27
Rosaline wore an uneasy expression. However, it seemed to be true that he always listened to everything Yeshion said, because despite his reluctance, he obediently stepped back.
When Yeshion turned to face Adelio, the crown prince immediately grabbed Yeshion by the wrist and started walking.
The force behind the pull was strong.
“It hurts.”
“What?”
“I said, it hurts. If you’re going to grab me, be gentle… Ah!”
Adelio dragged Yeshion to a secluded area and shoved him against the wall.
Yeshion let out a stifled groan.
“You’re not just a brute…”
His wrist throbbed painfully. The grip had been so tight that the skin was starting to swell a little.
“First a beast, then a pervert, and now a thug. What will you call me next?”
“..…”
“Enough with the useless nonsense. So.”
Adelio’s voice dropped, his eyes blazing with fury as though he was ready to strangle Yeshion at any moment.
“Do you still want to die? Have you been scheming something sly like that?”
Yeshion’s eyes widened at Adelio’s accusation.
He had never said anything like that. All he had done was repeat the words ‘still want to die?’ to himself.
“It’s a misunderstanding.”
“A misunderstanding?”
“Yes, it’s a misunderstanding.”
Yeshion spoke firmly, but Adelio’s suspicion didn’t waver. Given what he had overheard from Yeshion’s conversation with Rosaline, there was no way he would easily let go of his doubts.
“Yeah, you shouldn’t be thinking about dying yet.”
Adelio bent down, bringing his face close to Yeshion’s. Yeshion frowned, annoyed by how both Adelio and Eldis seemed to get uncomfortably close to his face every time they met.
With an exasperated sigh, Yeshion pushed Adelio away by the shoulder, but Adelio caught Yeshion’s hand, interlaced their fingers, and pinned him against the wall.
“…What do you think you’re doing?”
“You were patting my shoulder. I thought you were seducing me.”
Yeshion stared at Adelio like he was insane. How could anyone interpret pushing someone away as an act of seduction?
Yeshion roughly yanked his hand free and, without warning, charged straight into Adelio’s chest, using all his strength.
Thud!
Adelio staggered back a few steps, caught off guard by the impact. Since Yeshion couldn’t overpower him in size or strength, this was the only way he could resist.
Adelio clutched his chest, coughing slightly.
“This is all your fault, Your Highness. You should have stepped aside when I told you to.”
“When did you tell me to step aside? All you did was push me.”
“Most people would take that as a sign to step aside.”
“Of course, I didn’t understand because I’m a beast.”
Talking with Eldis always felt like being strangled by a snake, while talking with Adelio felt like being a small animal caught in a predator’s paw.
Neither sensation was pleasant.
“…If you’re here just to play word games, I’ll be going now.”
Yeshion turned away.
He’d rather spend his time helping the priests finish their tasks for the day than waste it with Adelio.
“If you’re talking about wanting to die…”
Adelio didn’t stop him but continued speaking. Yeshion paused and glanced back, prompting Adelio to continue.
“Does that mean this place doesn’t suit you?”
“.…”
“Or is it the people around you that you don’t get along with?”
It was true that Yeshion didn’t fit in at the temple. He had no divine power; he was a fake priest.
But as for the people not fitting him, that was a mess caused by the original Yeshion.
Did the body’s original owner really want to die?
Rosaline, though innocent to the point of naivety, didn’t seem like someone who would lie.
Even in the original story, he had never managed to escape the clutches of the main characters because he couldn’t lie convincingly.
‘So why did Yeshion want to die?’
If he hadn’t simply been killed but had planned his own death, there must have been a reason. To find out, Yeshion would need to talk more with Rosaline.
‘But do I really need to know…?’
He was planning to leave the temple anyway.
Once he left, he wouldn’t have to see these people ever again. He could leave Yeshion’s past and present behind in this place.
If he escaped the capital and changed his name, no one would ever know he had been Yeshion.
‘But first, I need to escape…’
