I Just Wanted to Avoid Death - Chapter 28
As Yeshion pondered, his eyes suddenly lit up with an idea.
‘Why don’t I ask him for help getting out of here?’
Adelio was the Crown Prince.
His behavior and demeanor might not fit the role, but he held real power.
In the Medesia Empire, the monarchy held more authority than the temple.
If Adelio wanted to, he could ignore whatever Eldis said.
In that case…
“Your Highness.”
“What?”
Yeshion knew it was like running from one predator straight into another’s jaws, but it was better than doing nothing.
Eldis had already blocked all attempts to leave the temple.
In the original story, that had been where everything started.
Eldis’s interest in Yeshion was clearly due to the sudden change in his behavior.
He no longer acted out, no longer threw things. A guy who used to be far from human now seemed to be playing the part. Naturally, that drew attention.
Yeshion wasn’t sure what Eldis thought of him before, but it was obvious that someone who was supposed to leave soon should retreat as quickly as possible.
“If I told you the temple doesn’t suit me and I wanted to escape… if I asked you to let me leave, would you?”
Yeshion had no intention of staying in Adelio’s grasp for too long. Adelio was someone who could swallow his life with just a flick of his tongue whenever he felt like it.
So, Yeshion’s plan was to hide from Eldis’s watchful eyes for just a little while. Then, when the guard was down, he’d run away. At least, Adelio had no idea Yeshion was planning to leave the capital.
“…Are you serious?”
“I am.”
“Truly?”
Adelio smirked, pulling his lips into a smile. It was the most pleased expression Yeshion had seen on his face in the few times they’d encountered each other.
For some reason, Yeshion felt uneasy and spoke cautiously, raising his guard.
“I’m serious, but… if you try anything while we’re out…I’ll kill you.”
“What?”
“Suddenly push me to the bed! Bring your face to mine! If you try to bite me like last time, I’ll kill you. You think I’d be afraid to kill you after I was ready to die myself?”
Adelio let out a dry chuckle.
Even if the little guy lunged at his neck, it wouldn’t hurt—it would probably just tickle. Maybe if there were a hundred Yeshions attacking at once, it might be slightly tiring.
“Alright, alright. Try to kill me if I touch you.”
“…..”
“But, I like hearing you talk tough like that. So, should I start calling you ‘my dear’ then?”
“Are you insane, really?”
Yeshion cursed reflexively, his face filled with genuine shock. Adelio burst out laughing.
“Haha! I’m not sure if it’s safe to take such an amusing guy with me.”
“…..?”
“That Eldis, that Archpriest, may not look it, but he’s quite the greedy one.”
At those words, Yeshion quickly shook his head.
“In everything else, maybe, but he has no desire when it comes to me.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“Grab any priest walking by and ask them. Ask if the High Priest likes me. Ten out of ten will probably shudder and tell you he despises me. So, will you take me with you or not?”
Yeshion glanced around nervously. If any other priests or people showed up, he knew he’d be caught again, making escape impossible.
Adelio laughed at Yeshion’s restless, eager-to-escape demeanor.
Normally, someone who tried to manipulate him like this wasn’t his type. But perhaps, just maybe, his tastes were broadening.
Adelio willingly extended his hand toward Yeshion. If Yeshion wanted to use him, he’d play along for a bit. After all, Yeshion was to Adelio’s liking, and Adelio wanted to devour him.
“Shall we go, princess?”
Yeshion didn’t take the offered hand and instead gave him a sharp glare.
“How about… fiancé?”
Adelio’s golden eyes narrowed playfully.
“Then… prince?”
“…Please, just call me by my name like a normal person.”
Yeshion scowled as he slapped his hand into Adelio’s, as if forcing himself to take it. Adelio quickly intertwined their fingers and chuckled softly. He pulled Yeshion closer, brushing his face against Yeshion’s neck before pulling away.
“Very well, Priest Yeshion.”
The mischievous tone in Adelio’s voice made it impossible for Yeshion to hide his irritation.
“So, how do you plan on getting out? If I’m going with you, we’ll have to sneak out.”
“That’s easy enough.”
Adelio half-embraced Yeshion. As his feet lifted off the ground, Yeshion instinctively wrapped his arms around Adelio’s neck.
“And…”
Adelio’s pace quickened. Just as Yeshion tightened his grip in surprise, Adelio leaped into the air.
“You…crazy…!”
Adelio laughed as they soared over the temple wall in a single bound.
“Simple, right?”
He lightly tapped Yeshion on the nose with his finger.
Yeshion’s heart raced.
Glaring at Adelio, who was grinning smugly, Yeshion bit down hard on the finger that had just tapped him.
