I Just Wanted to Avoid Death - Chapter 32
“Don’t come near me.”
“…..”
“If you touch me, you’ll be poisoned too.”
Adelio’s breathing grew more labored, and his movements became sluggish.
‘Was there something like this in the original story?’
Yeshion frantically tried to remember with his lips pursed.
No matter how much he thought about it, Yeshion couldn’t recall anything like this happening in the original story. Or perhaps it had, but he simply didn’t remember.
One thing was certain: Adelio was hurt because of him.
“I need to… call a priest, or the Archpriest,” Yeshion muttered.
“…No need, huff… don’t,” Adelio breathed out weakly.
“But why…?”
“You said… you didn’t want to… go back to the temple, right?” Adelio replied, his eyes half-closed.
He told Yeshion there was no need to call anyone, that he’d get better if he just slept a bit longer. As he spoke, Adelio’s body began to tilt backward.
“Your Highness!”
Yeshion’s mind went blank.
He simply acted on instinct.
Grabbing Adelio’s arm, he tried to pull him up, but Adelio’s heavy body fell on top of him.
“Ugh!”
Yeshion groaned in pain, unable to support Adelio’s weight.
But his own discomfort was the least of his worries.
Adelio’s breathing was ragged, and his heartbeat, felt through the contact of their bodies, was unnervingly fast.
His body temperature was soaring compared to usual.
‘What should I do… what should I do…?’
Yeshion, his lips trembling, suddenly shouted|
“The Crown Prince has collapsed! Someone, fetch a priest, hurry!”
A servant, who had been bustling around outside, heard Yeshion’s call and responded with a loud, “Yes!”
Meanwhile, Yeshion struggled to move Adelio’s body off of him, but it was too heavy for him to handle.
‘You can’t die here. Not now.’
That would be disastrous.
If Adelio died here, Yeshion’s future would be bleak.
Yeshion had been alone with him when it happened.
The notorious villain, Yeshion, who had committed countless vile acts.
A bottle of deadly poison had been in Adelio’s room, which meant someone had intended to kill him.
And Yeshion had been there.
In other words, this was the perfect setup for Yeshion to be framed as the Crown Prince’s assassin. No one else had witnessed what happened in the room.
“Please, please… You can’t die here. If you’re going to die, do it later,” Yeshion muttered, his voice trembling. He squeezed his eyes shut, furious at how helpless he felt.
If only he were a real priest, if only he had divine powers, he could have at least prayed to heal Adelio.
“Please, if there’s any god… any god at all. Allah, Jesus, Buddha, anyone… Please save him. If he dies, I’m dead too.”
I don’t want to die.
He had jokingly said things like, ‘Maybe I should just die and start over,’ but in truth, Yeshion didn’t want to die. Unless there was no other choice, he wanted to live.
Just as Yeshion closed his eyes tight, he felt his body grow weak. His breathing became labored, and his vision blurred, much like the symptoms Adelio had shown earlier.
“Oh…”
Come to think of it, Adelio had warned him not to touch him.
‘I’m such an idiot.’
With his vision growing faint, Yeshion stared up at the ceiling. The geometric patterns on the bathroom ceiling were all he could see.
In the past, he would curse endlessly when the characters in novels acted foolishly. Now that he was in the same situation, he found himself behaving just as irrationally.
Adelio had inhaled the poison the moment the bottle broke. He had swiftly blocked Yeshion’s mouth and nose to protect him from being poisoned.
He had even pushed Yeshion into the water to wash off any poison that might have touched his skin.
‘I should have realized sooner.’
The poison was airborne as well.
What good was washing off the poison if he then came into contact with Adelio, who was still contaminated?
‘Idiot, fool, moron…’
I should never have tried to act differently.
Why did I pick up those unknown bottles, thinking I could help the Saintess?
Maybe I should have behaved like the original ‘Yeshion,’ like the trash he was. If I had, at least I wouldn’t be dying like this.
‘I just… wanted to avoid death.’
But the more I tried to escape it, the closer it came.
As dizziness overwhelmed him, Yeshion closed his eyes.
At that moment, he resolved one more time: if he survived this, if he woke up again, he would never involve himself with the main characters again.
As his consciousness faded, Yeshion thought he heard someone calling his name.
