I Just Wanted to Avoid Death - Chapter 36
Eldis stared at Yeshion’s back. No answer came. The previously erratic breathing had returned to a steady, calm rhythm.
Eldis cautiously approached and gently held Yeshion again, releasing a soft divine power. As the pleasant energy enveloped Yeshion’s body, the strained look on his face gradually relaxed.
“I’ve killed you several times in my dreams.”
“……”
“I thought they were dreams only I had… but it seems you saw them too.”
Eldis muttered bitterly.
However, Yeshion, already asleep, couldn’t hear a word of it.
“…Still alive.”
He thought he would be dead by now.
Yeshion blinked slowly.
He couldn’t remember what had happened or how he was still alive. The only thing that came to mind was that he had pulled Adelio, causing them both to be poisoned.
After that, there was nothing. He vaguely recalled meeting someone and having a conversation.
‘It must have been nothing significant.’
Shaking his head, Yeshion groaned as he slowly moved his body.
He remembered being told he had been exposed to a deadly poison, but he felt perfectly fine. If he was in this condition, then surely Adelio hadn’t died either.
After fidgeting for a while, Yeshion slowly sat up. He expected a wave of dizziness, but to his surprise, nothing hurt. In fact, he felt more refreshed than usual.
“But why was…”
Why was there poison in Adelio’s room?
One of the bottles he had picked up was likely a drug that Adelio intended to use on Rosaline. The other must have been the deadly poison.
As far as Yeshion remembered, there was no event in the original story where Adelio was poisoned. The shelf in Adelio’s room originally contained various substances used for nightly activities—aphrodisiacs, sleeping potions, and so on.
However, after Adelio used the aphrodisiac on Rosaline, he never touched that shelf again in the original story.
“…Wait a minute.”
Suddenly, an unsettling realization crept up on him.
The reason Adelio stopped using the items on that shelf was because of Rosaline.
Since Rosaline’s body was highly sensitive, the aphrodisiacs became unnecessary.
Naturally, Adelio stopped touching the shelf, which inadvertently saved him from being poisoned.
No one ever discovered the poison in the original story. Even as the plot neared its end, the poison wasn’t mentioned.
But by attempting to remove the aphrodisiac, Yeshion had inadvertently revealed the existence of the poison to the world.
“Could it be… no, it can’t be.”
The original story shouldn’t have been altered lille this.
Though Adelio had nearly died, he hadn’t. Yeshion, alive and well in bed, was proof of that.
Still, he couldn’t shake the unease.
His heart pounded, and an overwhelming sense of impending disaster crept in.
“…No, it’ll be fine.”
There was no point dwelling on it. They say words have power, after all. Yeshion decided to stop thinking about it.
He tossed the blanket aside and walked over to the window.
Judging by the room alone, it was clear this wasn’t the temple. As expected, he was still in the palace.
‘At least they’ve kept my presence here a secret.’
If Eldis had known, he would have likely taken Yeshion back to the temple. For some reason, Eldis had been keeping a close eye on him lately.
But even amidst all his pain, there was one fortunate aspect—he now had a reason to leave the palace.
Even though it was Yeshion who had discovered and broken the poison, it wouldn’t have happened if the poison hadn’t been in the room in the first place.
He could use that as an excuse. ‘If I stay near you, I feel like I’m going to die. Please let me go.’
‘That excuse should be enough for them to let me leave, right?’
He couldn’t be certain, but it was worth a try.
“Either way, it’s best to leave here as soon as possible.”
Muttering to himself, Yeshion began unbuttoning his pajamas. He planned to change, find Adelio, and ask to leave the palace immediately.
“…Huh?”
But there were no clothes.
Glancing around, Yeshion opened the wardrobe, only to find there were no clothes he could wear. Even the ceremonial robes he had worn to the palace were missing.
“Do I need to ask for something to wear…?”
Yeshion muttered as he reached for the door handle. Just as he was about to open it, someone pulled the door open from the other side, causing him to stumble.
As he struggled to regain his balance, the person on the other side bent down and caught him.
“It’s rather troublesome for you to be half-dressed like this.”
It was Adelio.
