Yeshion’s words were met with Rosaline shaking is head firmly.
“No. Right now, taking care of your body comes first. Come on, follow me.”
Grasping Yeshion’s hand, Rosaline led him toward Eldis’ room.
Once inside, Yeshion clutched his still-trembling body.
‘What does the Red Rose signify…? And the white powder, what does it mean…?’
Yeshion searched his memories of the original story.
But no matter how hard he tried, nothing remotely similar had ever appeared in the narrative.
After all, In the Name of the Saintess unfolded from Rosaline’s perspective. Since he had no ties to such matters, there was no way Yeshion could know about these events, even having read the novel.
Still, he needed to find out.
He had to figure it out, somehow.
If he ignored this, his life might be in danger again.
Would chasing after that man reveal anything? Or maybe asking Adelio… would he have answers?
Biting his lip nervously, Yeshion felt Rosaline’s finger press against his mouth.
“You’ll hurt yourself.”
Rosaline gently stopped him and fetched a first-aid kit from a nearby shelf.
“If it were a serious wound, I’d use divine power, but… I heard you were treated with it yesterday.”
He spoke while applying medicine and carefully wrapping Yeshion’s neck with a bandage so it wouldn’t feel tight.
“If it scars, let me know. I can at least remove that much.”
Rosaline continued to chatter, trying to distract Yeshion from his spiraling thoughts.
Yet her efforts were futile; Yeshion’s mind was consumed by the encounter with the intruder—why he had come and what his cryptic words meant.
As Rosaline observed Yeshion’s pensive expression, he reached out and gently clasped his trembling hand.
“Yeshion.”
“…..”
“Let’s not overthink this.”
For the first time, Yeshion slowly raised his head to look at him. Rosaline’s face was full of worry, and his restless expression was somehow unsettling.
“…Why?”
“……”
“If someone threatened my life, shouldn’t I think deeply about it? Why shouldn’t I?”
Yeshion’s voice trembled with fear as he posed the question. His tone betrayed how terrified he had been in that moment, enough to make anyone listening understand.
Rosaline tightened his grip on Yeshion’s hand.
“Don’t think about anything, let’s just ask Eldis for help.”
“…What?”
“Eldis will solve it. He said as much before—if it happened within the temple, he can stop it. If it’s something from outside, it might be harder… but if we ask him…”
If anyone knew something, it would undoubtedly be Eldis.
He cared deeply for the temple, and Yeshion had always been a thorn in his side. Surely Eldis would know what the old Yeshion had been up to—who was targeting him and why they had infiltrated the temple.
“Hand everything over to Eldis?”
Rosaline nodded hesitantly.
Eldis would solve it all, and if Yeshion pretended not to know anything, it would all be taken care of. As long as he didn’t leave the temple, he might avoid further threats.
“But… this isn’t something the Archpriest should have to bear.”
“Yeshion…”
If Yeshion placed the burden entirely on Eldis, it would be no different than abandoning his responsibilities and leaving someone else to clean up after him.
“Doing something like that… it feels no different from what the old me would have done.”
The real Yeshion would have undoubtedly nodded in agreement. Powerless and without allies, he would have had no other choice.
But.
“Even if I can’t solve a single thing myself… I don’t want to offload my burdens onto others.”
Even if Yeshion and Eldiz have known each other since childhood.
Eldis was, in the end, a stranger.
So was Rosaline.
Yeshion, who had taken over this body, knew he had to live and handle the consequences of the original Yeshion’s actions.
But those two had nothing to do with it.
“…Others.”
Rosaline repeated the word quietly. His lips curved into a bittersweet smile, and he slowly nodded.
