“It seems quite noisy.”
“It’s because we have a guest.”
At the maid’s words, Emilia looked down at the floor below.
“A guest?”
“Yes, the guest of His Grace.”
The maid responded somewhat impatiently.
“Shall I leave now, Madam?”
“…Alright.”
Emilia turned and headed toward the third floor. This time, the knights blocked her path.
“What is it?”
“I’ve come to meet Lady Boestin. I’m going to have tea with her.”
“I will inform her.”
“Can’t I go directly and speak to her?”
“I’m sorry, but you’re not allowed on the third floor, Madam.”
It must be because of Dahlia.
Emilia stepped back. There was no point in trying to convince the knights—it would only be a waste of time.

“To show up unannounced, does the Chevron family lack manners?”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know there was a guest staying.”
“You must have been refused.”
“I thought His Grace was making an excuse. Surely you wouldn’t be displeased by my visit.”
“It seems Chevron has a unique way of interpreting other people’s intentions.”
“I’m just delivering a letter from Lady Luther. I am representing the royal family, so please show some respect.”
Leah said with a subtle smile, still holding her head high, as if thinking her royal connection gave her an air of superiority.
Mikhail was beginning to grow annoyed.
“Lady Chevron seems perfectly fine with doing such errands for others.”
“What do you mean by that…?”
“Delivering letters is a task for footmen. It seems you’re happy doing such trivial work. Perhaps it’s because of your humble origins.”
“…Your Grace, you’re being excessive. I’m just stopping by to deliver the letter. My aunt values me very much.”
“She wouldn’t offer poison to a beloved niece.”
Mikhail ripped open the letter.
He read aloud the note:
“Duke Heinrich,”
Three days from now, 1:30 PM, the council will convene.
There will be consequences for the Duke’s family, so attendance is mandatory.
Three days would be enough time. By tonight, he would receive a response from the Eponsen royal family, so there was no rush.
“From the fact that you’re delivering such trivial information, it seems Lady Luther thinks very little of you.”
“There is no such thing as trivial matters when it comes to royal business.”
She spun around once, then blinked at him and asked.
It seemed pointless to argue further. She answered with a smile, as if she had come prepared.
“This is why they gave you such tasks.”
Despite the ongoing sarcasm, she maintained her smile, as if she was letting it all roll off.
“Please don’t provoke me. You don’t know what I’ll say when I return.”
She stepped closer to him, leaning forward as if to either threaten or seduce him. Regardless of her intentions, he felt discomfort from the distance close between them. She stood on her tiptoes, smiling with her eyes narrowed, and he looked down at her as he spoke.
“I suppose you’re acting like this because you don’t care how I respond. You’ll be stopped at the front gate from now on, so the best way to avoid embarrassment is not to visit at all.”
She shook her head, as though the suggestion wouldn’t work.
“No matter how hard I try, Aunt will keep sending me to the Duke’s estate. She’ll try to place me somewhere, no matter where.”
Leah spoke calmly, brushing her silver hair behind her ear and lowering her eyes slightly.
“I’m not hurt by it. You may have more power than the King, but people believe only what they see.”
“You’re thinking of playing more games in the gossip column, aren’t you? Pathetically, is that all you can do?”
Her violet eyes, still sparkling, seemed to reflect a sense of purpose. How strange and disgusting it felt.
The look in her eyes was very different from the sparkle in Emilia’s when her eyes shone with life. That sparkle was like the vibrant green of summer, igniting one’s ambition, yet leaving one wanting to gaze longer.
But this… this was completely different.
“Oh, is that all? You understand better than anyone how important people’s opinions and their gaze are.”
She stepped away from him, glanced at the clock, and turned toward the door without hesitation.
“I think that will be enough. The time for our scandal to be born is approaching. If the Duchess doesn’t have a child soon, it will become difficult.”
She smiled brightly and left the drawing room.
Mikhail watched her leave and turned toward the window. As expected, reporters were lingering outside the estate, taking notes.
“Big fires require big responses.”
Was that really the best plan they could come up with? He felt somewhat deflated. Scandals had already come up in the past, and although there was no need to worry, they had quickly died down. He was sure it would be the same this time.
He was confident that nothing would happen that would require him to step in.

Emilia was waiting in her room for Boestin. As time passed, she could hear the maid’s voice from outside. Soon after, Boestin entered.
“Madam, I heard you were looking for me.”
“Lady Boestin, come in. I was going to come to you, but the knights stopped me.”
“I understand. But what is it that you need from me?”
“I have something I need to ask you. Would you like to have a cup of tea with me?”
“Oh, that sounds wonderful. I’ve been feeling a bit stiff lately.”
