“I don’t know what to do.”

Despite finding the answer she had long desired, she couldn’t come to a conclusion about her actions.

Emilia continued her walk, carrying her frustrated heart.

“Ugh.”

The nausea hit again. It was strange; she hadn’t eaten anything that should have made her feel this way, yet the nausea kept coming in waves.

‘…Could it be?’

It couldn’t be. Emilia’s eyes wavered quickly.

There were times when stress or physical strain would cause her period to skip, but most of all, she had taken the contraceptives Dahlia gave her.

So this anxiety must be unfounded.

Emilia stood still in the garden, nervously biting her nails.

‘If I ask a doctor, they’ll know for sure.’

It would be a relief if it wasn’t pregnancy, but what if it was?

If his child was growing inside her…

Emilia felt as if the world were collapsing. This was something that should never have happened.

Instinctively, she placed her hand on her stomach.

‘The pills Miss Dahlia gave me might not have been contraceptives after all.’

She hadn’t doubted it, but she had chosen to trust it. She believed that, since she was hated, she wouldn’t let her carry the Duke’s child.

‘Why am I so foolish?’

She blamed herself. She had tried so hard to convince herself that it wasn’t possible, but her heart kept racing, faster and faster.

Emilia sighed sharply.

She couldn’t trust the Duke’s doctor.

In that case, she had to go outside.

‘I need to make an excuse to leave.’

She turned her steps around, then suddenly remembered something Boestin had said.

“Plant flowers.”

Yes, if she said she was going to buy flowers, it might be an excuse to go to town without raising suspicion.

Emilia clenched her fist. She would wait for him to return and gather the courage to speak up.

He had left early in the morning, so he might return by late afternoon.

But not long after, she encountered an unexpected person.

As she approached the estate, she saw the Duke’s carriage and walked toward it, which led to trouble.

“Ah, Madam, we meet again.”

“…Miss Leah.”

Standing beside her, who was smiling brightly, was the very man who had left early this morning.

He was completely unflustered. Emilia tried to speak in a neutral tone.

“Where have you been?”

“As you can see.”

Mikhail answered shortly.

Emilia was taken aback. She hadn’t expected that the reason for his busy morning was because of this woman.

She wanted to ask him why he had to meet Leah early in the morning.

But now, in this situation, asking would make her seem ridiculous.

“I see. I’ll go inside first.”

Emilia chose to avoid the awkward situation. Just then, Leah hurriedly spoke up.

“Please, Madam, don’t misunderstand. I just had something urgent to discuss.”

She smiled shyly, as though they were sharing a private, confidential conversation.

Emilia smiled lightly in understanding and nodded.

“By the way, what brings you outside, Madam?”

Leah blinked and asked.

“You seem to have rushed out rather quickly.”

Emilia noticed that, unlike Leah’s elaborate outfit, she was dressed lightly.

Did she look like someone who had rushed out as soon as the Duke’s carriage arrived?

‘Maybe I should have waited to talk about this later.’

Emilia had been out since early morning, and as soon as the carriage arrived, she walked up to it. Anyone would think she had been waiting for him.

“Could it be that you were worried the Duke might do something unexpected? If it’s because of the rumors about us… you needn’t worry.”

She was deliberately trying to provoke her with those words, knowing full well how irritating they would be.

“Rumors? I’ve never heard of them. I’m not interested in gossip. It’s just useless chatter, so I don’t bother reading it.”

Emilia tilted her head slightly. She thought that Leah would be irritated by her dismissive attitude.

Emilia acted as though she truly didn’t care about them.

“It seems Miss Leah hasn’t heard much about the Duke and me.”

She couldn’t have missed it. After all, how could anyone not notice the public display of affection at a cafe?

Ignoring Leah’s glaring gaze, Emilia looked at Mikhail and said,

“By the way, Duke, since we’ve run into each other, I have a favor to ask. I want to plant some flowers in the garden.”

“…Flowers?”

“Yes, the garden seems so barren. I thought it could use some flowers.”

This was the first time she had expressed an interest in doing something at the estate. Mikhail seemed awkward about her request.

After a brief silence, he asked,

“Hasn’t the garden changed a bit?”

“…Pardon?”

“It should have changed.”

He murmured, glancing behind her.

“Oh!”

There were indeed a few new trees, slightly more varied shades of green, though it wasn’t much.

“Did Your Grace ask to plant these?”

“…It seems like a foolish request, given that it’s barely noticeable.”

“It’s better than before. But wouldn’t planting flowers bring more life to it?”

“Go ahead.”

Emilia had expected this response from Mikhail, as she knew he didn’t care much about such things, but still, she was glad he had given his approval.

Emilia smiled brightly.
