Mikhail sank into the bathtub and ran a hand through his wet hair. He couldn’t keep track of how many times he had been with her, yet his manhood stood proudly.
After cleaning himself, the lingering scent of roses didn’t dissipate.
“Next time, I might need a different fragrance.”
“Is there something wrong with it?”
Usually, he didn’t pay any attention to the fragrance of oils, but Ellyn, the maid, watched with widened eyes as he nodded.
“I will make sure to change it.”
“Awaken her and have her cleaned. The bedroom is a mess, so straighten it up.”
“Understood.”
“And the short-haired one on the right side. She seemed to come with a cheeky attitude.”
Earlier, there was a child he noticed among the maids who welcomed him at the manor. With short black hair, she was small but had a different air about her compared to the servants at the manor.
Ellyn, after rolling her eyes, promptly identified who Mikhail was talking about.
“She’s a new addition as of last night. She was sent by the royal family, so we have been keeping an eye on her. You don’t have to worry.”
Ellyn answered calmly. Mikhail nodded and headed to the study.
Emilia had been resting in one of the annex’s bedrooms, not the main one.
He had worried about what might happen if she woke up, but thankfully, she seemed to have understood the terms of their arrangement and stayed asleep.
Mikhail settled in his study, sinking deep into his chair.
“Duke Loren has requested an audience.”
“Did he change his mind?”
“It doesn’t seem so.”
Mikhail lit his cigarette, leaned back in his chair, exhaled a puff of smoke through his lips, and closed his eyes again.
“How long do you think you can hold on?”
“Judging by Duke Loren’s temper, it won’t be a short time.”
“That’s right. We have to endure until we’ve lost everything.”
He rose from his seat and retrieved a portrait he had stashed in a drawer. In the picture, a man with golden hair and fiery red eyes, who bore a striking resemblance to him, sat solemnly in an ornate chair.
“…..Duke.”
“You don’t have to put on that expression. By the way, can you still smell the scent of roses on me?”
“No. Did you use a different fragrance? It has a forest-like feel to it.”
Strange.
Despite Byne’s response, he remained pensive. The scent of roses had been clinging to him, even after bathing thoroughly with strong oils.
“Did you investigate as I asked?”
“Yes, I examined the families that was associated with during that time. I will report the compiled data soon.”
“Good. Any news from the royal family?”
“Nothing unusual. However, King Adrian seems somewhat uneasy.”
“That’s not a bad thing.”
If he was more agitated, it would be even more welcome on their end.
“Take her to meet Duke Loren tomorrow.”
“….Are you sure about this?”
“Find out what kind of conversation they have. They won’t just stand by and watch the Jaliar royal family founded by the first Duke Loren falls. We’ll have to wait and see.”
He inhaled deeply, drawing the smoke into his lungs, then exhaled. There was a silver ashtray on which the pipe rested.
“But why didn’t you kill her? I still don’t understand.”
“Killing is too easy. It’s unfair for the ones who remain to suffer.”
His eyes filled with longing. Despite the passing of time, the memory of that day still haunted his mind, visiting him every night.
“I heard you still can’t sleep through the night these days.”
“No need to worry.”
He took a pill from a glass bottle on the desk, put it in his mouth, and headed to the couch.
Watching Mikhail lie down on the couch, Byne carefully left the study.

Emilia woke up to a voice calling her. She felt weak all over.
With the help of the maids, she made her way to the bathroom. After submerging her body in the warm water-filled bathtub, she told them it was okay to leave and closed her eyes.
When she heard the maids leaving the bathroom, she relaxed.
“…..What am I doing right now?”
Although she could still feel his warm breath near her ear, she clenched the blanket tightly and held her breath.
– “Once a week, it’s a damn obligation from next week onwards, so remember that.”
Once a week? Who decided that?
She wanted to slap him right away, but she resisted the urge. As a result, she was left alone, naked and with the disheveled blanket.
“Damn Jaliar royal family. Damn them!”
She suppressed the urge to scream and regained her composure. Even after washing her body, she couldn’t bring herself to leave the bathroom for quite some time.
