Seated somewhat quietly across from the lady, Leah set down her teacup.
“Leah, you haven’t seen it yet, I suppose. If you were to meet the Duke, you’d soon understand why I’m so anxious.”
With her golden hair and red eyes, her gaze seemed to look down on everyone, and outspoken behavior.
She created an atmosphere different from the bloodline of the Jalliar royal family. In her own right, she was intimidating.
She had no interest in the throne, and even if she did, she wasn’t qualified. But she still managed to evoke respect for her golden hair and aroused subtle desire to submit among the people.
“I’m curious. There must be a reason why Aunt called me. Brother Adrian must be busy.”
“He was called, but seeing that he hasn’t come, it seems there’s something he needs to handle.”
Lady Luther said so, but she already had an idea of what Adrian might be up to. There was no need to expose her son’s shortcomings.
“I can meet Brother next time, don’t worry. Father gladly offered to help.”
It was fortunate that she readily agreed, but Lady Luther didn’t even trust her own younger brother straightforwardly.
She was a woman of many doubts. Her cautious nature had brought her to this position.
Even her close associates often thought of the forgotten royal family as they observed the Duke discreetly.
The presence of those she didn’t want to remember, those she wished to erase from memory, lingered in the back of her mind and crept up on her.
Could there still be those who longed for them or those who remained in power, waiting for an opportunity?
The thought made her breath catch.
‘How did I grab the throne?’
Lady Luther intended to keep her son on the throne until the very end. That way, she could enjoy all the benefits that came with being the king’s mother.
“What kind of person is the Duke, really?”
Leah’s curious eyes made Lady Luther’s mouth twitch.
“If there is anyone who knows what kind of person he is, he must be alone.”
Although they held hands, she couldn’t help but feel bothered by the Duke, whose thoughts were inscrutable.
“You keep saying that, and my expectations keep growing. I want to meet him soon.”
“More than that, swear allegiance.”
“You are someone who believes in actions rather than words, Aunt. I am ready to be loyal to the Jalliar royal family.”
It all pleased her immensely.
“Excellent. Let’s make your debut at this party. It may have been delayed, but it’s actually for the best.”
Leah’s beauty blossomed like a fully bloomed flower.
Her hair, arranged elegantly, glowed in the light, accentuating the smooth neckline, shoulder line, and the prominently raised chest that was enough to captivate the attention of all the men. The raised chest caused the soft flesh to sway gently as she spoke or laughed.
“I did tell him to have a child, but that’s a different matter. Understand?”
“Of course. After all, that woman is just a means to an end, and I am not her. If the Duke were to get caught on her, it would be troublesome, so we need to move quickly.”
“You seem confident.”
The lady’s face was filled with satisfaction.
Her upright posture and unwavering smile made her lovable niece undoubtedly live up to Lady Luther’s expectations.
“The Duke and that child’s wedding is scheduled soon. Since we can proceed as we wish, why not reveal yourself then?”
Lady Luther was determined to make Leah von Chevron the protagonist, not the two people. Leah’s appearance was as beautiful as Emilia’s.
What about her dignity and smile? The shy and charming eyes would surely be more alluring than the eyes filled with hatred.
Especially in bed. Even the reason Lady Luther had survived despite her greed so far was because she was the latter. At least that’s what she thought.
A being that simply gave love without nagging. Yet, she upheld his pride. She was pleased with small things and didn’t oppose what King Conrad did.
“If it’s your charm, the Duke will fall for it too.”
Lady Luther carefully lifted Leah’s chin and examined her face.
“So, cultivate yourself well. You must become the woman that everyone desires. First impressions will determine everything.”
“Don’t worry. The Duke will surely take a liking to me.”
Leah smiled beautifully at Lady Luther. And she was also looking forward to it.
How splendid of a man would Mikhail von Heinrich, the man everyone was paying attention to, be? She wanted to meet him as soon as possible.
