“…?”
“And the first night should be tonight, in front of my eyes. Oh, don’t worry. I won’t watch it to the end. It’s not that I don’t trust you, but you never know, right? You wouldn’t want to embrace a woman who’s sided with the enemy. But in the end, you’ll like her too. After all, she’s a beautiful woman, just like a fully bloomed red rose.”
Mikhail narrowed his forehead, but he had no justification to oppose his words. As he faced the red-haired woman with her sword drawn, he recalled the analogy Adrian had used.
The woman, as vibrant as a fully bloomed rose, carried sharp thorns within her. When he looked into her green eyes brimming with vitality, Mikhail felt a sense of discomfort.
‘It seems like she won’t break, standing strong even in this situation.’
Her actions, reminiscent of someone he couldn’t quite place, irritated Mikhail’s psyche.
Even in this situation, he despised her shining alone, her resolve unwavering even in the face of a seemingly hopeless outcome.
“Become my wife, and then you can live.”
He perhaps was not even aware of why those words had escaped his lips. He was curious about her reaction when offered a lifeline. While she never had a real choice to begin with, he stared straight at her, adorned in a soiled yet immaculate white uniform.
“Don’t say such nonsense!”
She trembled, but struggled to conceal her emotions. Fear filled her quivering eyes, yet she didn’t release her sword. With fierce determination, she swung her blade at him.
And in that moment, he too found pleasure in her defiance.
“Duke Heinrich, you’re starting to bore me.”.
If only it weren’t for Adrian’s words, he might have watched her struggle until she collapsed in exhaustion. It was a pitiable situation, but he took solace in being able to witness her crumbling in despair by his side.
As she knelt on the ground in submission, he couldn’t help but smile with a tinge of self-pity. He had long awaited this day, wondering why he couldn’t bring himself to kill her despite the anticipation.
It was a regrettable circumstance, but he didn’t mind being able to witness her despair for a little while longer.
After brushing off the water, Mikhail put on a fresh uniform. It was time to attend the coronation ceremony. Just then, a knock resounded as a servant entered.
“Your Excellency, the king is looking for you.”
“Please inform him I will go soon.”
Adrian may not have officially ascended the throne yet, but after quelling the rebellion and executing Speyer von Konrad, he was practically the king. Now, there was no one to dispute his claim to the throne before the formal coronation.
“Sir Byne.”
In response to Duke Heinrich’s summons, the knight who was standing outside, lowered his head and entered.
“Your order.”
“Keep a close watch on that woman. Don’t let her go anywhere else, especially during the coronation ceremony.”
“Understood.”
He lightly placed his hand over his chest and promptly left the room.
Mikhail, on the other hand, gazed into the mirror, adjusting his disheveled attire and regulating his breathing. He wiped away the murderousness embedded in his gaze.

“I can’t leave?”
Emilia glared at the knight blocking her path. Of course, she didn’t expect to be free, but having bound her so she couldn’t even leave the room was another matter.
Despicable coward.
What do they think she could do when they’ve already disarmed her? What are they so afraid of?
She lifted the corner of her mouth sarcastically, eyeing the knight dressed in navy blue.
“What’s your name?”
“I am Herman Byne.”
“Sir Byne, what’s the reason for blocking my way?”
“It’s by the Duke’s orders.”
“You look like you’re scared. Afraid I might do something?”
Emilia studied Byne’s expression carefully. Seeing his lack of reaction, it seemed he wasn’t blocking her out of fear that she might do something reckless.
Rolling her eyes, she quickly anticipated what was happening outside.
‘If I interfere, something inconvenient is going to happen, right?’
After seizing the castle and suppressing the opposing faction, all that remained was for Adrian to become king. If she were to go there, it would be problematic in various ways. Emilia remained still, tilting her head to the side.
“What if I don’t stay quiet? Will you resort to force?”
“If an unavoidable situation arises, I will have to use force.”
Emilia burst into laughter at his response.
“Let’s give it a try.”
With nowhere else to retreat, there was nothing worse for her. Emilia grabbed the candelabra resting on the desk and threw it to the floor.
Crash!
She seemed determined to destroy everything in the room, and as the glass shattered, Sir Herman Byne let out a sigh.
“If you cause a commotion, your family locked up in the prison will be in danger.”
“The Duke’s people are skilled in threats.”
“Even if you create chaos here, nobody will pay attention. It’s just a matter of replacing things, and the more you act out, the more trouble it will bring to you, not us.”
Byne calmly explained.
Emilia realized that Byne’s calm demeanor meant he wasn’t just making empty threats. Whatever she did, he wouldn’t be swayed.
For the first time, Emilia felt a sense of powerlessness wash over her. She made a silent promise to herself that she would end it. With everyone’s lives hanging in the balance due to her actions, there was only one thing she could do.
She nodded slowly to ease the tension.
“You’re right. It seems your words make sense.”
Emilia took a few steps back and glanced at the shattered glass on the floor. Without hesitation, she picked up a glass shard, smiled broadly at Byne.
“I wonder if you’ll still remain unfazed even by this.”
With those words, she didn’t hesitate to place the shard against her own throat.
